This August 5, 2011 roundup covered three distinct corporate announcements: Fusion-io’s agreement to acquire IO Turbine, shareholder approval of Level 3 Communications’ proposed acquisition of Global Crossing, and Eaton’s 480/277V ePDU configurations. The Level 3 deal still needed regulatory approval at the time; it was later listed as completed on October 4, 2011.
What Fusion-io said about acquiring IO Turbine
Fusion-io announced a definitive agreement to acquire IO Turbine, described in the 2011 roundup as a provider of caching software for virtual environments. The stated consideration was up to approximately $95 million, subject to purchase-price adjustments. The announcement said 20 IO Turbine employees would join Fusion-io’s engineering team upon closing. These were terms and plans reported with the agreement, not confirmation that the acquisition had closed.
Fusion-io Chairman and CEO David Flynn said: “IO Turbine’s software is uniquely architected to take advantage of flash memory in the server to solve the I/O bottlenecks, the inhibitor to the adoption of enterprise virtualization,” (DataCenterKnowledge, August 5, 2011).
What happened with Level 3 and Global Crossing?
Stockholders at both Level 3 Communications and Global Crossing voted to approve Level 3’s proposed acquisition. Shareholder approval was not the same as regulatory clearance or completion: the companies still needed regulatory approvals and expected to close before the end of 2011, according to the August 2011 roundup.

What Eaton announced for its ePDU line
Eaton announced 480V configurations for its ePDU power distribution line. The 2011 article said these were intended for facilities receiving utility power at 480V AC, avoiding the need for step-down transformers and supporting 277V power supplies. It also reported Eaton’s claim that higher-voltage distribution could reduce losses compared with 208V distribution.

That is the rationale reported for Eaton’s 2011 announcement, not current engineering guidance or confirmation that a present-day Eaton model has the same configuration. The roundup did not establish current product availability or compatibility.
Joe Skorjanec, then Eaton Distributed Power Solutions ePDU product manager, said: “We’ve noticed a trend with many of the new, cutting-edge data centers choosing a 480V power scheme and 277V custom power supplies that are extremely efficient.” (DataCenterKnowledge, August 5, 2011)

How to read the roundup in context
The items belong to different parts of the data-center business: enterprise storage software, corporate consolidation, and electrical distribution hardware. They are historical announcements, not a current investment or equipment guide. Retrospective company-history material also says Fusion-io was acquired by SanDisk in 2014; that later outcome was not part of what the August 2011 roundup reported. (Fusion-io company history)
