When did Dufour become Rolex CEO?
The appointment announcement and the start of the job were more than a year apart:

- April 14, 2014: WatchTime reported that Rolex had confirmed Dufour’s arrival from Zenith. The transition date had not yet been set and was to be coordinated with the sitting CEO, Gian Riccardo Marini. WatchTime’s April 14, 2014 report.
- April 15, 2014: JCK likewise reported the appointment and said the start date remained undetermined. JCK’s April 15, 2014 report.
- June 2015: Rolex’s official company history says Dufour took over the leadership mantle from Marini in that month. Rolex company history (2020).
So, 2014 is the year Rolex announced the appointment; June 2015 is when he assumed the role, according to Rolex.
Who is Jean-Frédéric Dufour?
Dufour studied economics at the University of Geneva and worked in banking in Hong Kong before moving into watchmaking. Rolex’s history describes his industry experience as spanning sales, production, marketing and product development. Contemporary reports identified him as CEO of Zenith before his appointment at Rolex.

Whom did Dufour replace?
Dufour succeeded Gian Riccardo Marini, who was Rolex CEO when the 2014 appointment was announced. JCK also places Dufour after Bruno Meier and Marini in its account of Rolex’s leadership succession from 2008 onward; that sequence is JCK’s historical context, rather than a statement from Rolex.

Early coverage described a future appointment, not an immediate handover: the 2014 reports said the transition date had yet to be determined. Rolex’s later company history supplies the effective month. Keeping those milestones separate avoids incorrectly dating Dufour’s start as April 2014.
