Rivian’s approximately $45,000 R2 is an additional Standard version expected in late 2027—not the price of every R2 or the configuration listed for earlier arrival. Rivian’s March 2026 U.S. lineup recap also lists a $48,490 Standard Long Range and a $57,990 Performance with Launch Package. Its general R2 page separately displays a $53,990 starting price and “Late 2026,” so the source and configuration matter when comparing the figures.
Rivian R2 prices and expected timing
Rivian’s detailed March 2026 recap lists these U.S.-market starting prices and expected schedules:
| Configuration | Starting price | Expected timing | Configuration details |
|---|---|---|---|
| R2 Performance with Launch Package | $57,990 | Spring 2026 | Not stated in the recap details summarized by Rivian’s announcement. |
| R2 Standard Long Range | $48,490 | First half of 2027 | Single-motor, rear-wheel drive; Rivian-stated 350 horsepower and up to 345 miles of range. |
| Additional R2 Standard | Around $45,000 | Late 2027 | Further configuration details are not stated in the announcement. |
These are announced starting prices, not final out-the-door totals. Rivian’s recap identifies the figures as U.S. prices; it does not establish a buyer’s local taxes, incentive eligibility, or financing cost. Rivian’s March 2026 R2 lineup recap
Why Rivian’s pages show different starting prices
Rivian’s general R2 page currently displays “Starting at $53,990” and “Late 2026.” The March 2026 recap, meanwhile, provides prices and expected timing for named configurations, including the later Standard versions. Those statements describe different page contexts and configuration information; they should not be blended into a claim that the approximately $45,000 version is available at the general page’s stated timing.

What the $45,000 price means for a buyer
The $45,000 figure is approximate and applies to an additional Standard variant that Rivian expects in late 2027. A buyer looking at the earlier announced lineup should compare the $48,490 Standard Long Range and $57,990 Performance with Launch Package instead. Rivian describes R2 as an all-electric midsize SUV with two rows and seating for five.
Standard Long Range specifications
For the $48,490 Standard Long Range, Rivian lists a single-motor rear-wheel-drive setup, 350 horsepower, and range of up to 345 miles. Those are manufacturer-stated specifications; “up to” is Rivian’s range qualification, not an independently verified real-world result.
