Rich’s Ice Cream recalled 110,292 cases of frozen dessert products over possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The products were distributed in 23 U.S. states and Nassau, Bahamas; that figure describes distribution, not states reporting illnesses. To check a package, match both its product name and lot code to the details below.

Which Rich’s ice cream products were recalled?

The recall covers 10 frozen dessert products. The reported lot-code range is #24351 through #25156. Check the product name and lot code on the package; geography alone does not establish whether an item is included.

Chocolate Crunch Cake Bar #24351 through #25156
Strawberry Shortcake Bar #24351 through #25156
Rich Bar #24351 through #25156

Cotton Candy Twirl Bar #24351 through #25156
Savagely Sour BlueRaspberry Bar #24351 through #25156

Cool Watermelon Bar #24351 through #25156

The Georgia Department of Agriculture advises disposing of affected products and provides recall and product-label information. CBS News also reported that matching products should be disposed of. Follow the instructions on the official recall listing and the company’s product-label information for packaging details.

Where were the products distributed?

The reported U.S. distribution footprint includes Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin. The products were also reported sold in Nassau, Bahamas. CBS News and the Georgia Department of Agriculture list these distribution areas.

Being in one of these places does not by itself mean your package is recalled. Use the product name and lot code as the decisive checks.

What should you do if you have a matching package?

  1. Check the name and lot code. Compare the package with the 10 product names and the #24351 through #25156 range above. Use the Georgia Department of Agriculture listing for recall details and product-label information.
  2. Do not eat a matching product. Dispose of it according to the recall instructions. Do not rely on the fact that it was sold outside a listed distribution area if the package otherwise appears to match; consult the official listing or company label information if uncertain.
  3. Watch for symptoms and seek medical guidance when appropriate. If you ate potentially contaminated food and develop fever with other symptoms of listeriosis, contact a healthcare provider and mention the possible food exposure.

What are the health risks of Listeria?

People at greater risk of severe illness include pregnant people, newborns, adults 65 or older, and people with weakened immune systems. Invasive listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, fatigue, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and seizures. Symptoms and individual risks vary; this information is not a diagnosis.

The CDC says most experts believe people who ate possibly contaminated food but feel well do not need tests or treatment. They can contact a healthcare provider with questions. The CDC advises people who develop fever with other listeriosis symptoms after eating recalled or outbreak-linked food to contact a provider and disclose the possible exposure. See the CDC’s Listeria symptoms guidance.

Does “23 states” mean there were illnesses in 23 states?

No. For the 2025 Rich’s recall, 23 states refers to reported product distribution, not reported listeriosis cases. CBS News reported on July 22, 2025 that the FDA announcement did not list reported illnesses and described the recall as ongoing at that time. That is a dated account, not confirmation of the recall’s current status.

This recall is also distinct from the 2022 Big Olaf Creamery outbreak. In a June 29, 2022 update, the CDC reported 23 illnesses in 10 states in that outbreak; it later reported the outbreak strain in samples from Big Olaf ice cream and the production environment. Big Olaf recalled all flavors, lots and expiration dates through June 30, 2022. Those historical case figures do not describe the Rich’s recall.
