Celebrity Net Worth estimates Richard Dawson’s net worth at $100,000 when he died in 2012. That figure is a third-party estimate, not a verified estate valuation: the available sources do not provide an inventory of his assets and debts or explain how the estimate was calculated.

Richard Dawson’s reported net worth

Celebrity Net Worth lists Dawson’s net worth as $100,000 at the time of his death in 2012. The figure is best understood as that publisher’s estimate, not as an audited total or an official accounting of his estate.

Net worth is the value of assets minus liabilities at a particular point in time. It is not the same as lifetime earnings, a salary, or the value of an estate before debts and distributions. The reviewed sources do not establish Dawson’s assets, liabilities, estate distributions, or the method behind the $100,000 estimate, so the number cannot be independently confirmed from them.

How Richard Dawson built his public career

Dawson, born Colin Lionel Emm, moved from comedy stages in London into Hollywood television. The Television Academy’s oral-history interview, recorded in Beverly Hills on December 1, 2010, includes his recollections of work on The Dick Van Dyke Show and Hogan’s Heroes, guest-hosting The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, and becoming host of Family Feud. It documents his career, not his finances.

Dawson was widely known for playing Corporal Peter Newkirk on Hogan’s Heroes and for hosting Family Feud. The show’s official history dates his first hosting run to 1976–85 and says he returned for one more season in 1994–95. It also recounts that he met Gretchen Johnson when she appeared as a contestant with her family.

The Television Academy records seven Daytime Emmy nominations for Dawson for Family Feud, with one win, in 1978. Its career account says he died on June 2, 2012, at age 79. These career milestones help explain his public profile, but they do not establish how much he earned or retained.

What is known—and not known—about his earnings

The available sources do not substantiate Dawson’s Family Feud salary, his total career earnings, or the financial details of his estate. A net-worth estimate cannot be used to reverse-engineer any of those figures: earnings over a career are different from wealth remaining at death, and the calculation depends on assets, debts, spending, taxes, and other factors not documented here.

An Associated Press obituary published by CBS News reports that executive producer Howard Felsher estimated Dawson had kissed “somewhere in the vicinity of 20,000” women contestants by the show’s 1985 end. That is Felsher’s estimate of a show-related anecdote, not a financial statistic. The same report attributes Dawson’s explanation to him: “I kissed them for luck and love, that’s all.”
