Revolving Games announced a $13.2 million seed round on September 9, 2022, with former Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser among the investors. Houser joined the company’s advisory board; the announcement does not describe him as a Revolving Games employee or game developer. The company said the funding would support Web3 games and technology.

How much did Revolving Games raise?

The figures refer to different totals. Revolving Games’ September 2022 announcement identified more than $13.2 million in seed funding and called its latest round $25 million. The Block separately reported $12 million in pre-seed funding plus $13.2 million in seed funding, or $25.2 million combined. The company’s $25 million figure is therefore a rounded aggregate, not the size of the seed round alone. These are company- and publication-reported figures, not an independently audited financial statement.

Revolving Games said the financing would fund its Web3 games and technology over the following two years. The company also said it had invested more than $12 million over the preceding two and a half years in publishing tools and technology, and had more than 100 team members across two studios. Those figures were company statements in 2022.

Who invested, and what was Dan Houser’s role?

Revolving Games’ announcement listed Pantera Capital, Animoca Brands, Polygon, Dan Houser, Dapper Labs, Permanens Capital Partners, Kenetic, Sarmayacar and DWeb3 Capital as participants in the round.

The company described Houser as a former Rockstar Games co-founder who invested and joined Revolving Games’ advisory board. That is an advisory role, not evidence that he became a studio executive, employee or credited developer. The announcement provides no direct quote from Houser about the investment.

Other investors did comment. In the company announcement, Animoca Brands co-founder and executive chairman Yat Siu said the firm liked the work it was seeing and was pleased to support the studio. Polygon’s head of global games business development, Urvit Goel, said Revolving Games’ goal of creating lasting Web3 experiences resonated with Polygon’s gaming ambitions. Revolving Games co-CEO Saad Zaeem described a goal of building AAA-quality games that could compete with traditional releases. These are interested-party statements about the company’s ambitions, not independent assessments of game quality or commercial prospects.

What games did Revolving Games announce?

At the time of the 2022 funding announcement, Revolving Games described two projects:

  • Battlestar Galactica: A blockchain-based 4X strategy MMO tied to the Battlestar Galactica franchise, described as being developed in partnership with Gala Games and NBCUniversal.
  • Skyborne Legacy: A social world-exploration and trading RPG that the company said was planned for Polygon.

Those descriptions document development plans announced in 2022; they do not establish whether either game later launched or its current availability.

What changed in the later roadmap?

In an August 5, 2024 announcement, Animoca Brands described Revolving Games as building a decentralized gaming ecosystem involving the RCADE Chain, Node Network and RCADE token. Animoca said the company planned to launch four internal games and ten additional AAA titles over the following 36 months, and described Phoenix Flight as a forthcoming mobile game with early access planned for Q4. Animoca also reported that Revolving Games had received over US$37 million in venture funding.

These are dated roadmap and funding claims from a business partner, not confirmation that the projects, infrastructure or release targets were completed. The 2024 total is also a later, broader figure than the 2022 seed-round amount; the announcement does not provide a reconciliation of the funding totals.
