Battlefield 6 ranked as the best-selling PC/console game of 2025, followed by the smaller releases R.E.P.O. and PEAK. That ranking, reported by Paul Thurrott in his February 25, 2026 summary of Sensor Tower’s State of Gaming 2026 report, is not a published unit-sales tally: the summary provides no sales totals and does not define whether “best-selling” means units or estimated revenue. It also reports that Fortnite—not Battlefield 6—led PC/console games by player base.
What were the best-selling video games of 2025?
Sensor Tower’s report, as summarized by Thurrott, places these three PC/console games at the top of its 2025 sales ranking:
| Rank | Game |
|---|---|
| 1 | Battlefield 6 |
| 2 | R.E.P.O. |
| 3 | PEAK |
The report is quoted as saying: “Battlefield 6 is the best-selling PC/console game of 2025, in a market with titans like Call of Duty and Fortnite and a year with other massive launches like Delta Force and Marvel Rivals.” It also says: “The number two and three best-selling PC/Console games of 2025, R.E.P.O. and PEAK, outsold AAA titles with huge budgets and audiences. GTA 6 will be the culmination of this trend.” Both statements are attributed to the report; no individual speaker is named.
These are rankings, not disclosed sales figures. The accessible summary does not specify the ranking’s geographic scope, methodology, or whether “best-selling” refers to units sold or estimated revenue. It therefore supports the reported order, but not a claim about how many copies each game sold or the size of the gap between them. Why the sales ranking is not the same as a popularity ranking
Sales, downloads, revenue, player base, and monthly average users (MAUs) describe different things. A title can lead one measure without leading another; the reported rankings illustrate that distinction.
PC/console player base
The summary lists these games in order for PC/console player base: Fortnite, Counter-Strike 2, Minecraft, GTA V Legacy, and Call of Duty. Fortnite therefore led the player-base ranking even though Battlefield 6 topped the reported sales list.
Shooter downloads and MAUs
Among PC/console shooters, the top five by downloads were Marvel Rivals, Battlefield 6, Delta Force, ARC Raiders, and Call of Duty. By PC/console MAUs, the order was Fortnite, Counter-Strike 2, Call of Duty, PUBG, and Battlefield 6. These lists should not be read as sales rankings.
Cross-platform popularity
The summary gives Roblox, EA Sports FC, PUBG, Call of Duty, and Minecraft, in that order, for cross-platform popularity. It does not define that label further in the accessible summary, so it should not be treated as a precise sales or audience metric.

What the report summary says about game downloads
Sensor Tower’s report, as summarized by Thurrott, counts 52.2 billion mobile game downloads and 2 billion combined PC/console game downloads in 2025. The platform breakdown reported in the summary is:
| Platform | Game downloads in 2025 |
|---|---|
| Android | 42.4 billion |
| iPhone and iPad | 7.8 billion |
| Xbox | 546 million |
| PlayStation | 626 million |
| PC | 857 million |
The figures are downloads, not unique players, purchases, or copies sold. Android and iPhone/iPad are the mobile figures; Xbox, PlayStation, and PC are the stated PC/console platform figures. The summary does not give further counting details, so avoid using these totals as a measure of people who played a game.
Rank #4
Revenue and spending figures are separate from game sales rankings
The summary reports Steam revenue of $11.7 billion in 2025, up 13 percent year over year. It also reports more than $50 billion in Apple App Store game revenue and about $30 billion in Google Play Store game revenue. These are platform revenue figures attributed to Sensor Tower by Thurrott; they do not establish the sales position or unit sales of any individual title.
For mobile in-app purchases, the report summary says consumers spent $85.6 billion on game purchases and $81.8 billion on app purchases, describing 2025 as the first year game purchases exceeded app purchases. These are in-app purchase spending totals, not downloads or total consumer spending across all game platforms.

| PC/console genres | Mobile genres |
|---|---|
| Action | Strategy |
| RPG | RPG |
| Shooter | Puzzle |
| Simulation | Casino |
| Strategy | Simulation |
The summary also says more than 225,000 game titles were released in 2025—an average of 617 new games per day. It lists five breakout games whose first-day revenue exceeded $100,000: Kingshot, SD Gundam G Generational Eternal, Vampyr: Heir of Blood, Maplestory: Idle RPG, and Valorant Mobile. Those claims are attributed to the report summary; they are not a complete release list or a ranking of best-selling games.
How to interpret “best-selling” responsibly
- For the reported sales order: Battlefield 6 was first, R.E.P.O. second, and PEAK third among PC/console games.
- For player base: Fortnite led the PC/console list in the summary.
- For shooter downloads: Marvel Rivals was first; for shooter MAUs, Fortnite was first.
- For platform revenue or downloads: use those measures as reported, rather than substituting them for individual game sales.
The underlying ranking methodology and geographic scope are not established in the accessible report landing page or Thurrott’s summary. Treat the placements as Sensor Tower’s reported ranking, not independently verified global unit-sales results.
