Renesas announced a strategic partnership with Tata Motors and Tejas Networks on June 29, 2022, to develop and manufacture semiconductor solutions for India and other emerging markets. The automotive track addressed electronics for electric and connected vehicles, while the Tejas track focused on telecom radio-unit solutions for 4G, 5G and Open RAN. Separately, Renesas and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) planned a system-solutions center; a later report said that joint Innovation Center had opened in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
What Renesas announced on June 29, 2022
The agreement brought Renesas together with two Tata Group companies—Tata Motors Ltd. and Tejas Networks Ltd.—for design, development and manufacturing of semiconductor solutions aimed initially at India and potentially at other emerging markets.
It was a strategic collaboration announcement, not the launch notice for a named chip, vehicle system or commercial telecom product. The public announcement did not identify a Tata vehicle model, a production deployment date, a retail product or partnership revenue target.
“We see great potential in collaborating with Renesas in areas like automotive electronics and present and future telecom networks. The collaboration will accelerate our presence in these areas in India as well as globally.”

Renesas President and CEO Hidetoshi Shibata described the arrangement as bringing “two industry leading companies closer together” and said the companies would support “the acceleration of progress in advanced electronics and its multitudes of applications for the Indian and emerging markets.”

What the Tata Motors automotive collaboration covered
Vehicle electrification and connectivity
Renesas and Tata Motors framed the automotive effort around next-generation automotive electronics, electric vehicles and connected vehicles. That language describes a technology direction rather than a confirmed component fitted to a production Tata vehicle.
Vehicle-centralized and zone-oriented architectures
The announcement also referred to vehicle-centralized, zone-oriented electronic and electrical architecture. In this approach, computing and control functions are consolidated and distributed through vehicle zones rather than being handled by a large collection of isolated electronic control units. The announcement did not specify which architecture, processor, microcontroller or production program Tata Motors would use.

ADAS was an area for exploration
The companies said they would explore a non-exclusive partnership in emerging technologies including advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). “Non-exclusive” means the statement did not commit either company to using the other as its sole partner for those technologies. No ADAS feature, sensor configuration or deployment timetable was announced.

Tejas Networks’ workstream concerned semiconductor solutions for telecom radio units. The stated technology scope included fourth-generation (4G), fifth-generation (5G) and Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN or O-RAN) systems.
The initial product and solution focus was India, with an intention to expand globally. The announcement did not name a radio-unit product, semiconductor model, operator customer, shipment date or commercial performance result, so it should not be read as evidence that a specific O-RAN platform had begun shipping.

The separate Renesas–TCS system-solutions center
How it differed from the Tata Motors and Tejas agreements
Renesas described a separate planned Joint System Solution Development Center with TCS in Bangalore. Its remit was broader than either operating workstream: IoT, infrastructure, industrial and automotive system solutions.
Reported opening and technical scope
A March 2023 EE Times India report attributed to Renesas said TCS and Renesas had opened a joint Innovation Center in Bengaluru and Hyderabad. The report described work in RF, digital and mixed-signal design, along with software development. That follow-up supports reporting that the center opened; it does not establish a commercial product launch, production volume or measured business result.

Why Renesas presented this as a system-level strategy
In a July 2022 EE Times interview, Sailesh Chittipeddi, then Renesas executive vice president and general manager of the IoT and infrastructure business unit, said the arrangement was broader than simply expanding a design center. His explanation positioned Renesas, Tata companies and TCS as an ecosystem working across components, software and complete system solutions.
Chittipeddi said near-term opportunities were more likely in IoT and infrastructure. He viewed automotive opportunities as a longer-term possibility as India’s vehicle industry moved toward electrification. That is an executive assessment of timing, not an independently verified market forecast.

The staffing figure was a projection
In the same 2022 interview, Chittipeddi described a plan for “roughly 50 people initially, expanding to about 150 in about a year.” This was a staffing projection at the time of the interview; the cited material does not establish that the projected headcount was achieved.
