Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFTs have lost most of their peak floor price, but they are not literally worthless. CoinGecko’s snapshot accessed October 8, 2026, put the collection’s floor at about 6 ETH, roughly 96% below its recorded high of 153.7 ETH on May 1, 2022. A floor is the lowest listed price, not a guaranteed sale price—and it does not describe every ape.
How much have Bored Ape prices fallen?
CoinGecko records BAYC’s all-time high as 153.7 ETH, or $420,430, on May 1, 2022. Its tracker snapshot accessed October 8, 2026, showed a floor of about 6 ETH, equivalent to about $15,185 at the snapshot’s conversion rate. CoinGecko calculates the decline from that recorded high at roughly 96%. These are dated tracker figures, not a promise that a buyer would pay that amount for a particular NFT. Other published checkpoints use different dates and methods. A peer-reviewed historical study reports that the floor rose from 0.1 ETH in May 2021 to 120 ETH in April 2022; its peak point differs from CoinGecko’s later recorded high, so the figures should not be merged into one price series. In a separate historical checkpoint, Bloomberg Law reported that Nansen put the floor at 10.2 ETH on the Friday before its April 20, 2024 article, down 93% from the peak. That is a 2024 figure, not a current quote. Bloomberg Law’s April 20, 2024 report

What does “floor price” actually mean?
A collection’s floor price is the lowest active listing at a given time. It is not the average completed sale, a firm offer to buy every NFT, or an appraisal of each token. A listing can remain unsold, be cancelled, or change before a buyer acts. A collection-level floor also says little by itself about how much a specific ape might sell for.
Marketplaces track distinct events—including listings, offers, sales, cancellations and transfers—so those measures answer different questions. For any comparison, check four things: whether the amount is in ETH or dollars; whether it is a listing, offer or completed sale; which marketplace and capture date it comes from; and whether it refers to the collection floor or a particular token’s traits. ETH-dollar conversion can make the same ETH price look very different in dollars as the exchange rate changes.
Why do BAYC price figures differ?
Prices move, and marketplace snapshots are taken at different times. CoinGecko’s October 8, 2026 snapshot showed about 6 ETH, while an OpenSea page snapshot captured months earlier displayed a substantially higher figure. ETH and dollar figures also should not be treated as interchangeable. The Block reported in May 2022 that BAYC’s floor fell from about $420,000 to $198,000 between the beginning of that month and May 18, a decline of more than 50% in dollar terms. Its report connected the period’s pressure to a broader crypto-market downturn after the TerraUSD collapse and noted the effect of the ETH-to-dollar exchange rate on Ethereum NFT values. It also reported weekly BAYC sales down just over 30% in its stated week-on-week comparison. Yuga Labs launched Bored Ape Yacht Club in April 2021 as an Ethereum NFT collection with a 10,000-token mint. OpenSea presents each ape as distinctive digital artwork and membership in a community, and says holders receive intellectual-property rights. The community proposition mattered to some holders. A 2023 qualitative case study based on online communities and interviews with four BAYC holders describes participants’ positive experiences of identity, mutual support and access to online and in-person events, alongside concerns including scams, trolling and projects they viewed as “cash grab” efforts. What the price collapse does—and does not—say
The scale of the fall is clear when the dated CoinGecko high and snapshot floor are compared. But “almost worthless” is headline shorthand, not a literal valuation: the snapshot still showed a nonzero floor, and that floor neither guarantees an executable sale nor sets the value of every token. Individual sale outcomes can differ from the lowest listing, and the figures cited here do not establish what any particular holder could recover.

For readers assessing the headline, keep each claim tied to its measure and date: a collection floor is a changing listing statistic; a historical peak is not a current market; and a quoted dollar value depends on the ETH exchange rate used at that time.
