Its approach uses small local delivery nodes, dynamically matched couriers, combined parcel deliveries and returns, and e-bikes for some trips. The financing was reported in February 2025; Relay’s claimed service and environmental gains have not been independently verified in the cited coverage.
Who invested in Relay’s $35 million round?
TechCrunch reported on February 26, 2025, that London-based Plural led Relay’s Series A. Germany’s Project A and Prologis Ventures, the venture arm of logistics real-estate company Prologis, also participated. Tech.eu independently reported the round and Plural’s lead the following day.
Neither report disclosed Relay’s valuation or the round’s full terms. Relay was founded by CEO Jonathan Jenssen and COO Nicole Mazza, who, according to TechCrunch, previously worked at last-mile delivery company Stuart. TechCrunch’s report and Tech.eu’s coverage describe the financing.
What Relay means by applying an “Asia model”
The phrase refers to an e-commerce-oriented, flexible last-mile setup, not a single system used across Asia. TechCrunch compares Relay’s dispatch approach to a food-delivery app adapted for parcels; Tech.eu describes a decentralized network of hyperlocal nodes rather than a traditional hub-and-spoke arrangement.

Local nodes and flexible courier matching
Instead of relying solely on distant depots and fixed daily routes, Relay describes using small local nodes—potentially including stores—and matching couriers dynamically with delivery routes. The reporting does not detail the size or number of nodes, or provide a like-for-like network comparison with a named incumbent carrier.
Deliveries, returns, and e-bikes
Relay combines outbound parcel deliveries and returns on a trip, and uses e-bikes instead of large trucks for some movement. The reports do not quantify how often a return can be paired with a delivery, or what share of the network’s transport is handled by e-bike.

How Relay uses computer vision
TechCrunch reported that Relay uses computer vision to evaluate proof-of-delivery photographs. CEO Jenssen said image analysis can distinguish a parcel left in a garbage bin from one left on a porch, with the resulting feedback given to couriers for training. This is the company’s described process; the report does not provide an independent assessment of its accuracy or effect on claims.
What is known about Relay’s customers and coverage
At the time of TechCrunch’s February 26, 2025 report, the company named Vinted, TikTok, Temu, and UK retailer THG Fulfil as users of its platform. The same report said Relay operated in most UK cities, including London and Manchester. These are dated snapshots, not confirmation of the company’s current customer roster or geographic footprint.

How to read Relay’s performance claims
TechCrunch reported an 82% increase in proof-of-delivery compliance, explicitly attributing the figure to Relay’s estimates. It did not cite an independent audit or define the baseline and measurement period. Treat the percentage as a company-reported estimate, not a verified industry comparison.
Jenssen also told TechCrunch that Relay could save “a billion miles a year” with one customer. The report provides no calculation method or independent verification for that estimate. It is a claim about potential mileage savings, not a measured result that can be generalized across customers or cities.

Plural partner Taavet Hinrikus described Relay’s asset-light model as AI-optimized and said it was already producing delivery times “that are a fraction of incumbents.” That is an investor’s characterization; the cited coverage does not provide comparative delivery-time data. The reports likewise do not establish that Relay is broadly cheaper or lower-emissions than conventional carriers.

The two February 2025 reports corroborate the $35 million Series A and Plural’s lead. They do not disclose the company’s valuation, detailed investment terms, audited operating results, or verified environmental impact. TechCrunch also repeats a global parcel-volume forecast without identifying the original forecasting organization, so it is not a useful basis here for a sourced market-size figure.
