Xiaomi/Redmi was reported on October 4, 2024, to have said the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ recorded the highest first-week sales of any Android phone launched that year. The milestone followed the phone’s September 26 launch in China. Xiaomi did not publish unit totals or the comparison method, so this is best described as a company-claimed China sales record—not an independently verified global championship.
What Xiaomi claimed—and what the wording leaves unclear
October 4 coverage attributed the first-week sales claim to Xiaomi/Redmi, describing the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ as the top-selling Android launch of 2024 across price segments. Gizmochina’s report and Xiaomi Time’s coverage describe the broad comparison, but reports do not consistently interpret the underlying wording. Some coverage suggests the claim may have referred to a price segment rather than every Android phone. Infinium Tech notes the translation ambiguity, while PhoneWorld discusses a price-segment interpretation.
The announcement is tied to the Chinese launch. Contemporary coverage described the Pro+ as China-exclusive at the time; it should not be read as a claim about worldwide sales or later international versions. Xiaomiui’s launch coverage places the milestone in that China-market context.
What can be verified about the record
The Redmi Note 14 series launched in China on September 26, 2024, and the reported milestone came after the first week of sales. Xiaomi’s China purchase listing is for that market. The available coverage does not provide a unit count, revenue, market share, ranking table, or independent audit.

Nor does it explain what Xiaomi counted as a sale. The term could refer to completed customer purchases, online orders, retailer shipments, presales plus launch-week transactions, or sales through a subset of channels. Without a published definition, there is no sound basis for treating the result as worldwide consumer sell-through or assuming competing phones were compared over identical periods and channels.
- Supported: reports attributed a first-week Android sales-record claim to Xiaomi/Redmi after the China launch.
- Not established: how many phones sold, which channels and transactions counted, or whether the comparison was independently verified.
Why the phone may have drawn buyers
Features reported for the Chinese launch model included a curved 6.67-inch OLED display, Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor, telephoto camera, large battery and fast charging. Launch coverage also described promotional benefits, including extended warranty coverage. These features and incentives may have helped the phone appeal to buyers, but no evidence identifies them as the cause of the sales result.

Some Chinese-model specifications are inconsistent across secondary reports, including charging wattage and water-resistance ratings. They should not be treated as settled without the relevant original regional listing. The reported feature mix is context for the launch, not proof of why the phone sold well.
The Chinese launch model is not identical to every regional version
Xiaomi’s Global product page lists a different configuration from the Chinese model described in launch coverage. The international product page specifies a 200MP main camera, a 5,110mAh typical battery, 120W HyperCharge and IP68 protection; Chinese reports describe a 50MP main camera alongside a telephoto and ultrawide camera, and cite a 6,200mAh battery. These specifications should not be blended into one description of the phone that set the reported China sales milestone.

Xiaomi says the Global model’s IP68 rating is based on laboratory testing in static freshwater up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes, and warns that liquid damage beyond those conditions is not covered by warranty. That rating is not a promise that the phone is waterproof.
What the claim does not prove
- It does not establish that the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ was the best-selling Android phone worldwide, for all of 2024, or over its lifetime.
- It does not establish market share, revenue, profitability, or a ranking verified by an independent market-research firm.
- It does not establish that every sale was a completed consumer purchase rather than an order or shipment.
- It does not show that the global or India version achieved the same result as the China launch model.
- It does not demonstrate that the phone is the best buy now; a launch-week sales claim says nothing by itself about current price, alternatives, or support.
What buyers should check before choosing one
The 2024 announcement is not a substitute for checking whether a particular version suits your country and needs. Xiaomi’s Global product page and India product page illustrate why the regional model matters.

- Exact model and market: Check the full model name and regional specifications. Camera, battery, charging, software, network bands and support can differ.
- Network compatibility: If considering an import, confirm the phone supports your carrier’s bands and services rather than assuming a China-market device will work like a local model.
- Software and warranty: Verify the installed software, applicable update policy and local warranty with the seller or Xiaomi for your region. China launch offers are not automatically available elsewhere, and warranty coverage may not transfer.
- Charging: Confirm the wattage supported by your exact version and whether a compatible charger is included.
- Water exposure: Treat an IP rating as limited-condition protection, not permission for deliberate submersion or a guarantee against liquid damage.
- Price and alternatives: Compare the current local price with other models and the features you will actually use. Xiaomi’s Global family overview lists the Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G and Redmi Note 14 as alternatives, with suggested starting prices of $399, $299 and $199 respectively for the listed global variants; those suggested prices are not necessarily current transaction prices or U.S. prices.
