What the payment is for
These payments relate to In re: T-Mobile Customer Data Security Breach Litigation, MDL No. 4:21-md-03019 (BCW), the class action arising from T-Mobile’s 2021 data breach. The settlement covered roughly 76.6 million U.S. residents identified by T-Mobile whose information was compromised.

Why people are seeing amounts near $56.54 or $226.19
The original settlement notice provided alternative cash-payment categories of:
- $25 for qualifying class members outside California.
- $100 for qualifying members of the California subclass.
Those were not guaranteed final amounts. The notice expressly allowed the payment to be reduced or increased depending on the total number and value of claims. Recipient reports later commonly described payments of $56.54 and $226.19.

In other words, those widely reported figures are consistent with the later distribution. But the public official materials do not provide a person-by-person calculation for those exact amounts. Do not assume that receiving roughly $56 proves you were outside California, or that receiving roughly $226 proves California eligibility. The near four-to-one pattern resembles the original $25/$100 categories, but it is not a published rule for every payment.

How to verify a payment safely
- Do not click a link in an unexpected text, email, direct message, or social-media post.
- Type t-mobilesettlement.com into your browser yourself. The site says it is the only authorized website for the case.
- Use the number published there—1-833-512-2314—to ask Kroll whether a payment was issued to you and which delivery method was used.
- Compare the payment with the delivery option you selected in your original claim, if you remember it. Valid claims were paid by the selected digital-payment method or by paper check.
- Do not give a caller, texter, or email sender your Social Security number, bank login, card number, or a fee to “release” settlement funds.
A genuine settlement payment does not make every message bearing the words “T-Mobile,” “Kroll,” or “data breach” genuine. Independent confirmation through the official site or its published phone number is the useful test.
Can you still file a claim?
No. The deadline for new cash claims was January 23, 2023. A person could receive a cash payment only if they were in the settlement class and submitted a valid claim before that deadline. If you filed a claim but did not receive the payment you expected, contact Kroll at 1-833-512-2314; do not use contact details supplied in an unsolicited message.
Some non-cash benefits remain available. Eligible class members can still request identity-defense enrollment information and use restoration services. Settlement monitoring is available through January 20, 2028.
Do not confuse this with an FTC Zelle payment
Not every T-Mobile-related payment comes from this 2021 breach settlement.

| Payment program | What it concerns | Key identifier |
|---|---|---|
| T-Mobile Data Breach Settlement | The 2021 data-breach class action discussed here | Kroll; T-MobileSettlement.com |
| FTC refund program | A separate matter involving unauthorized third-party charges on T-Mobile bills before 2014 | Some payments were sent by Zelle in February 2025 |
The FTC states that it never asks consumers to pay money to obtain a refund. That same common-sense rule applies here: a surprise demand for a processing fee, tax payment, gift card, crypto transfer, or login information is a major warning sign.
There may be additional settlement money in 2026
The official settlement homepage says a residual distribution is expected later in 2026 and tells class members to continue checking the site for updates. That means a legitimate payment is not necessarily limited to the initial 2025 distribution. Because distribution timing and instructions can change, rely on the current notice at the official settlement website, rather than forwarded screenshots or social posts.

No. The deadline for new cash claims was January 23, 2023. People who timely submitted valid claims may still need to contact Kroll if they have a payment issue.
Is this the same as the FTC Zelle refund?
No. The FTC’s Zelle payments concerned a separate, older matter involving unauthorized third-party charges on T-Mobile bills before 2014. The breach settlement discussed here is administered by Kroll.
