The verified record covers Reading FC’s sale to Rob Couhig’s Redwood Holdings and Ruben Selles’s hopes for the club. It does not establish what Ian Harte said: the interview named in the original title could not be located, so no comments can responsibly be attributed to him.
When did Rob Couhig take over Reading FC?
Reading announced a sale in principle to Redwood Holdings Limited on 3 May 2025. The company was owned by Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair, and the club said the deal still had legal technicalities to clear. That announcement was not the completion date. Reading’s 3 May statement and BBC Sport’s report that day describe the agreement at that stage.
BBC Sport reported that the takeover completed on 14 May 2025, with Redwood Holdings acquiring the club. Its report, published on 15 May, marks the completed purchase.
What was included in the proposed sale?
Reading’s 27 March 2025 update said the proposed sale included the club, Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park Training Facility. At that point, the club said exclusivity with a proposed purchaser remained in place and discussed ongoing litigation and a proposed alternative security arrangement. These details describe the position in March, before the sale-in-principle announcement and completion. Read the club’s 27 March statement.

What did Ruben Selles say about Rob Couhig?
Former Reading head coach Ruben Selles spoke to BBC Sport on 3 May 2025, when the sale was announced in principle. He said he had spoken with Couhig while at Reading and hoped Couhig and then-head coach Noel Hunt could build a strong project and take the club back to the Championship. These were hopes expressed at the announcement, not a later assessment of the ownership’s results.
Selles also reflected on his time at Reading: “My time at Reading was very difficult but one of the most amazing periods of my life with those fans, I think the feeling we created was really powerful.” He told BBC Sport: “I spoke with Rob (Couhig) when I was at the club and I think he wanted to do it (the takeover) last season.” BBC Sport published his comments on 3 May 2025.

What did Couhig say after the takeover?
In comments reported by BBC Sport on 15 May 2025, Couhig urged supporters to look to the future and said the deal had taken almost a year after an earlier attempt collapsed. He said the club had a spending plan and would be run in a financially sound way. Those were his stated intentions at the point of takeover; they do not, on their own, establish what happened under the new ownership.
In a 19 May interview with The Guardian, Couhig described his account of the acquisition process and his priorities. The newspaper reported that he had never spoken directly to former owner Dai Yongge, and described a London Commercial Court judgment upholding Couhig’s claim to security over the stadium and training ground after an earlier deal was aborted. The Guardian reported Couhig’s preference for free transfers and infrastructure spending, alongside ambitions for better on-pitch performance and off-pitch stability. He said, “I never spoke to Mr Dai,” and, “My goal is always to leave a place better than I found it.” These are Couhig’s account and aims as reported at the time, not proof of later outcomes.
