Was Benny Kwong buying Reading FC?
A report dated 1 October 2024 said Kwong had held talks with then-owner Dai Yongge about purchasing Reading FC. It described Kwong as a Hong Kong-based businessman associated with Blue River Holdings. Those details were reported by the outlet; Reading’s official statement six days later did not name Kwong or confirm that he was its potential purchaser. On 7 October, Reading said it had agreed an exclusivity period with “a potential purchaser.” The statement confirmed that discussions were under way, not the identity of the prospective buyer. What did Reading’s October 2024 announcement cover?
The club said the proposed sale included Dai’s shareholding, Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park Training Ground. It did not publish a purchase price or name the potential purchaser. Reading FC’s statement.

The same announcement said the English Football League had imposed a formal registration embargo because Reading filed its accounts for the 2022–23 accounting period late. The club presented this as a separate operational issue alongside the sale update. Reading FC’s statement.

Who eventually bought Reading FC?
Reading announced a sale in principle to Redwood Holdings Limited on 3 May 2025. The club identified Redwood as a subsidiary of Dogwood Football LLC, owned by Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair. BBC subsequently reported that Redwood completed the takeover in May 2025. The completed purchase was therefore by the Couhig and Trosclair-associated company, not a reported acquisition by Kwong.
