Reading FC’s takeover is complete. Redwood Holdings Limited owns Reading Football Club Limited after the EFL cleared the change of ownership on 14 May 2025. The acquisition covered the club’s shares, the Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park training ground.
Who owns Reading FC now?
Reading Football Club Limited is wholly owned by Redwood Holdings Limited, according to the club’s current company-details page. That page lists Robert Emmett Couhig Jnr and Todd Trosclair as directors.
Redwood is a subsidiary of Dogwood Football LLC, owned by Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair. In its completion announcement, Reading said Redwood had acquired 100% of the club’s shareholding. The purchase also included the Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park, the club’s training ground. BBC Sport reported the completion, and the EFL confirmed the club was under new ownership.
When was the takeover completed?
Reading announced a sale in principle to Redwood on 3 May 2025, but said legal technicalities remained. The club announced completion on 14 May, when the EFL cleared the ownership change. The deal is not still pending.

Why were there different takeover headlines?
The sale process stretched across multiple stages, and not every headline described the eventual completed deal. In October 2024, Reading said it had agreed an exclusivity period with a prospective purchaser. The intended transaction at that stage included Dai Yongge’s shares, the stadium and Bearwood Park, but exclusivity was not completion. The club also disclosed an EFL registration embargo related to late filing of its 2022–23 accounts. Reading’s October 2024 statement described that earlier stage.
The eventual buyer was Redwood Holdings Limited. Reading announced the sale in principle in May 2025 and then confirmed its completion. These updates should not be treated as one continuous, already-closed transaction: the October announcement was an earlier stage, while the May announcements recorded the Redwood sale and its completion.
Why did the ownership change matter to supporters?
The takeover followed a difficult period under previous owner Dai Yongge. BBC Sport reported transfer embargoes and 18 points of deductions across the ownership period, arising from financial-rule and payment-related issues. That 18-point figure is BBC’s account of historical club discipline, not a deduction in a new season or a single penalty for one issue.
The EFL said in January 2024 that it had called for Yongge’s disqualification after repeated breaches and failure to fund a designated account for player and staff wages. That statement concerned the previous ownership period; it is not an update on the completed sale. Fan protests were also part of the backdrop, and Couhig had made an earlier attempt to buy the club that fell through in 2024 before negotiations resumed. The EFL’s January 2024 statement sets out its position on the regulatory action.

What Reading and the EFL said when the deal closed
Reading’s completion announcement, quoted in BBC Sport’s 14 May 2025 report, said: “The club are pleased to announce that Redwood Holdings Limited – a subsidiary company of Dogwood LLC, owned by Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair of New Orleans, Louisiana – has completed the acquisition of 100% of the shareholding in Reading Football Club.” The club’s statement identified the buyer and confirmed the share purchase; the EFL separately announced the club was under new ownership.
