Has the Reading FC takeover been completed?
Yes. The distinction is between the announcement of a proposed sale and the later completion of the transaction. On 3 May 2025, Reading FC announced a sale in principle to Redwood Holdings Limited, saying the deal included the Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park Training Ground but still awaited final legal technicalities. The club said: “Reading Football Club is pleased to announce the sale in principle of the club to Redwood Holdings Limited.” (Reading FC, 3 May 2025.)
On 14 May 2025, the club announced that the transaction had been completed following EFL clearance. BBC Sport reported that Redwood acquired 100% of Reading FC’s shareholding. Rob Couhig became chairman and Todd Trosclair joined the board (BBC Sport, 14 May 2025).
Who owns Reading FC now?
Reading FC’s published company information says Redwood Holdings Limited owns the club in its entirety and lists Couhig and Trosclair as directors (Reading FC, club information). The club’s May 2025 completion announcement, as reproduced by BBC Sport, described Redwood as a subsidiary of Dogwood LLC, owned by Couhig and Trosclair.

The ownership record is separate from Couhig’s later comments about the club’s plans for its facilities and academy: the company page establishes the published ownership and director details, while the remarks about future intentions are attributed to him.
Is Reading FC selling its training ground?
On 2 January 2026, Couhig rejected rumours that Reading planned to sell Bearwood Park or downgrade the academy. BBC Sport quoted him as saying there were no such plans and that both were “vital parts of the club’s present and future” (BBC Sport, 2 January 2026). This is the chairman’s stated position, not an independent guarantee about every future decision.

The sale followed a period of financial and sporting difficulty under former owner Dai Yongge. BBC Sport reported that deductions during his ownership totalled 18 points and that the club faced repeated transfer embargoes (BBC Sport, 2025). Separately, in October 2024 Reading FC said an EFL registration embargo was linked to late filing of its 2022–23 accounts (Reading FC, 7 October 2024).
Those reports describe past difficulties and restrictions; they do not establish that every restriction remains in force now. The takeover update itself is about the change in ownership, not a statement that all financial or sporting problems were immediately resolved.

Reading FC takeover timeline
- 7 October 2024: Reading FC said it had entered an exclusivity period with an unnamed potential buyer. The club also connected an EFL registration embargo to late filing of its 2022–23 accounts.
- 3 May 2025: The club announced a sale in principle to Redwood Holdings Limited, including the stadium and training ground, subject to final legal technicalities.
- 14 May 2025: The takeover completed after EFL clearance, transferring 100% of the club’s shareholding to Redwood. Couhig became chairman and Trosclair joined the board.
- 2 January 2026: Couhig denied rumours of a training-ground sale or academy downgrade.
