Rob Couhig’s takeover of Reading FC is complete, not still advancing: the English Football League (EFL) confirmed final clearance on 14 May 2025. Reading’s current company-details page lists Redwood Holdings Limited as the club’s sole owner, with Robert Emmett Couhig Jnr and Todd Trosclair as directors.
Has Rob Couhig completed the Reading takeover?
Yes. The EFL said on 14 May 2025 that it had granted the final clearance required under its regulations, placing Reading under the new ownership of Couhig and Trosclair through Redwood Holdings Limited. That clearance is the completion milestone; it came after Reading’s earlier announcement that a sale had been agreed in principle.
Reading’s current company-details page lists Redwood Holdings Limited as the sole owner of Reading Football Club Limited and names Robert Emmett Couhig Jnr and Todd Trosclair as directors. Company details can change, so these are the details listed on the club page at the time of publication.
What did the Reading FC takeover include?
In its 3 May 2025 announcement, Reading said the proposed sale to Redwood Holdings Limited included the Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park Training Ground. The club identified Redwood as a subsidiary of Dogwood Football LLC, owned by Couhig and Trosclair. On that date, the club described the transaction as a sale “in principle” and said final legal technicalities remained. The later EFL clearance on 14 May marked the subsequent regulatory milestone.

How the takeover progressed
- 7 October 2024: Reading announced an exclusivity period with a potential buyer. The proposed transaction included Dai Yongge’s shareholding, the Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park Training Ground. The club also reported an EFL registration embargo linked to late filing of its 2022–23 accounts.
- 27 March 2025: Reading said exclusivity with a proposed purchaser continued. It also reported that a formal alternative-security proposal had been made to Couhig in connection with an ongoing litigation-related security impasse.
- 22 April 2025: The EFL extended Dai Yongge’s divestment deadline to 5 May, citing progress toward a proposed sale. It said it was continuing to monitor the club’s immediate cash-flow requirements.
- 3 May 2025: Reading announced a sale in principle to Redwood Holdings Limited. The announcement still referred to outstanding final legal technicalities.
- 14 May 2025: The EFL confirmed final clearance under its regulations and the change to ownership through Redwood Holdings Limited.
The key distinction is between the 3 May announcement of a sale in principle and the EFL’s 14 May final clearance. The first reported the agreement subject to remaining technicalities; the second confirmed the required regulatory clearance.
Who owns Reading FC now?

The club’s 3 May announcement described Redwood as a Dogwood Football LLC subsidiary owned by Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair, while the current company-details page lists Couhig and Trosclair as directors of Reading Football Club Limited.
