Reading FC board member Rick Catania said the club’s ownership group had received approaches from parties interested in buying a stake or the whole club, and that serious offers had been considered. His February 2026 interview confirms reported interest—not an agreed or completed second takeover. The potential buyers and terms were not identified.
What is the latest twist in the Reading FC takeover story?
In an interview published by Greatest Hits Radio on 9 February 2026 and updated the next day, Catania described approaches to buy anything from a shareholding to Reading FC outright. He said serious offers were looked at, while adding that the group was enjoying its work at the club and was “not done yet.” Greatest Hits Radio’s interview report
That account does not establish that an offer was accepted, negotiations are underway, or another takeover has been completed. Catania did not name any interested party or disclose offer terms. “Fresh twist” therefore means reported interest in the club, not confirmation of a new sale.
Who owns Reading FC now?
The latest documented completed takeover in the supplied reporting took place in May 2025. BBC Sport reported that Redwood Holdings Limited, owned by Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair, completed the purchase of 100% of Reading Football Club’s shareholding after receiving EFL clearance. Catania said he, Couhig and Trosclair had bought out Miami-based Aliya Investments’ stake over the holiday period. He also said Ross Kestin remained on the board and that the ownership percentages were still being worked out. How this differs from the completed 2025 takeover
The distinction is between a completed transaction and interest that a club representative says has been expressed:

These are different stages of a potential transaction. An approach or offer does not, by itself, show that a sale has been agreed or that ownership has changed.
Are the stadium or training ground being sold?
The May 2025 takeover report said the Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park training ground were part of the transaction. That does not establish that either asset is currently being sold separately.

On 2 January 2026, chairman Rob Couhig called reports of a training-ground sale and academy downgrade “categorically untrue.” This is his denial at that date; it does not settle what may happen later. BBC Sport’s report of Couhig’s response

The 2025 change of ownership followed a difficult period for the club. BBC Sport reported that Reading had faced financial difficulties, transfer embargoes and fan protests under former owner Yongge, and that the English Football League imposed an 18-point deduction during that period.
