Reading FC is owned by Redwood Holdings Limited, following a takeover completed in May 2025. Redwood is a subsidiary of Dogwood Football LLC, owned by Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair. William Storey’s reported £50m proposal dates to 2023; it is not evidence of a current bid. Later reports of a rejected offer and US-linked stadium financing do not establish that Reading is being sold.
Who owns Reading FC now?
Redwood Holdings Limited owns Reading FC. The club announced on 3 May 2025 that the sale to Redwood had been agreed in principle, and the English Football League confirmed final clearance on 14 May. The completed transaction included the Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park Training Ground. Reading FC’s announcement and the EFL’s clearance statement identify the transfer and the new ownership.
Redwood is a subsidiary of Dogwood Football LLC. The EFL identified Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair as the club’s new owners in its May 2025 statement.
Did William Storey buy Reading, or is his £50m bid current?
No. The £50m figure relates to a reported proposal from 2023. It is a historical reported amount, not a verified current bid, the completed purchase price, or an established current valuation of the club. The figure surfaced through a Reddit repost rather than the original article, so the proposal details have weaker sourcing than the club’s completed-sale announcement and EFL clearance. The repost and the linked Reading Chronicle report concern the earlier claim; neither establishes a new offer.

Is Reading FC up for sale, or are US parties taking over?
The available reports do not establish that Reading is currently for sale or that an unnamed US party is taking over. They describe two separate developments after Redwood’s completed purchase:
- Reported offers, one declined: A 9 February 2026 radio report said Reading board member Rick Catania had described offers received during the ownership group’s first eight months and said one had been turned down. The report does not identify an accepted offer or confirm an active takeover. BBC Radio Berkshire’s report is evidence of reported interest, not a completed or agreed sale.
- Reported Point72-linked stadium financing: A 14 May 2026 local-news relay of Reading Chronicle reporting said a £5m stadium investment was understood to be underpinned by a loan from Steve Cohen’s Point72. This is reported financing for stadium investment, not evidence that Point72 or another US party is buying the club. The report does not establish an ownership transfer.
The distinctions matter: an approach or offer can be declined without a sale process resulting in a buyer, and a loan connected to stadium investment is not itself a purchase of the club.

What do the latest Companies House filings show?
Companies House lists group accounts for the year ended 30 June 2025, filed on 30 March 2026, and a charge created on 5 May 2026 and registered on 13 May 2026. These are dated corporate records, but the filing index alone does not identify a new owner or demonstrate that Reading is for sale. The Companies House filing history is useful for checking recorded filings, not for treating a charge or accounts filing as proof of a takeover.
How the ownership story changed
- 7 October 2024: Reading said a potential purchaser was in an exclusivity period. The proposed transaction included Dai Yongge’s shareholding, the stadium and Bearwood Park. That was an earlier stage, superseded by the later completed Redwood sale. Club statement.
- 3 May 2025: The club announced a sale in principle to Redwood Holdings Limited, including the stadium and training ground. Club statement.
- 14 May 2025: The EFL confirmed final clearance and identified Couhig and Trosclair as the new owners. EFL statement.
- February–May 2026: Reports described a declined offer and Point72-linked stadium financing. Neither report confirmed a new owner or an accepted takeover bid.
What would confirm a new takeover?
A claim that a new buyer is taking over should be assessed against concrete details: who the bidder is, when the offer was made, whether it is an approach or an accepted agreement, what assets or shares are included, and whether the club or EFL has confirmed the transaction. The current reports described above do not supply that confirmation for a new sale.
