Royal Bank of Scotland still operates staffed mobile branches—banking vans that visit selected locations so customers can handle some everyday transactions in person. They are separate from banking on the RBS mobile app. Check RBS’s current locator for your stop and visit time before setting out, because routes and temporary closures can change.
Does RBS still have mobile banking vans?
Yes. RBS calls them Mobile Branches. The bank describes a mobile branch as “a bank which comes to you” for everyday banking, including deposits, cash withdrawals and bill payments. The service is delivered by staff in a physical vehicle; it is not the RBS app or online mobile banking. RBS’s mobile branch page has the current service information.
RBS says vans visit specified locations for up to five days a week, throughout the year except Christmas Day and bank holidays. That does not mean every community gets a daily visit, or that a listed stop will always run as planned. Traffic, bad weather and temporary closures can affect the service. RBS also notes that transactions may not show on an account immediately.
Where does the RBS mobile branch stop?
Use the RBS mobile branch locator to check locations and visit information. Look up your particular stop and time for the day you intend to travel; do not rely on an old timetable or assume a route is permanent. The locator is where RBS says temporary closures are reflected.

The scale figure in RBS’s reporting is a count of stops, not vans or routes. NatWest Group’s 2025 annual report says RBS continued to offer mobile branches throughout 2025, with 613 unique stops as at 31 December 2025, compared with 600 in 2024. The report also says RBS closed mobile branches in locations where a Cash Access UK banking hub offered a more permanent and comprehensive service. NatWest Group 2025 annual report.
What can you do at an RBS mobile branch?
The service is intended for selected everyday banking tasks, but the van’s cash and processing capacity can limit what staff can complete on a particular visit. RBS publishes different limits for personal and business customers:

These are RBS’s published limits, not a guarantee that the full amount will be available at a stop. Personal cash withdrawals and deposits are subject to the bank’s conditions and, where relevant, the van’s available cash or processing capacity. Check the current RBS service details before relying on a limit, as operating terms can change.
RBS’s business banking information also lists cheque cashing, account deposits, bill payments and cash withdrawals. It says an onboard phone can be used for enquiries about loans, credit cards, mortgages, insurance and other products. RBS business mobile branch information.

What can’t you do on the van?
RBS says mobile branches cannot process statements, international transfers, or account openings and closures. For those tasks, the bank directs customers to the RBS app, Digital Banking or a branch. A van visit is therefore not a substitute for every service available in a fixed branch or online.
If a task is urgent, or you need a transaction that is not listed for the van, contact RBS or check its digital services before travelling. For an onboard transaction, allow for the possibility that it may not appear immediately in your account.

Should you use a banking hub or Post Office instead?
RBS identifies banking hubs and Post Offices as other local options. A banking hub is fixed rather than route-based, and RBS says personal and business customers can use hubs Monday to Friday for deposits, withdrawals, balance enquiries and bill payments. A Royal Bank team member is present once a week for more specific help, including online and mobile banking support, account maintenance, payments, card management, fraud support and registering additional needs. RBS also points customers to Post Office banking and other cash services, but the available transactions depend on the service and location. Before choosing, compare the specific task you need, opening or visit times, distance and accessibility, whether cash or cheque handling is available, applicable limits, and whether a Royal Bank employee will be there.

In a 2018 report, the House of Commons Scottish Affairs Committee described mobile branches as vans serving rural communities and discussed concerns at that time about weather reliability, limited hours, accessibility for people with mobility issues and uncertainty about coverage after closures. Those are historical findings, not an assessment of every current route. Readers who have access needs can contact RBS to discuss reasonable adjustments; the bank says it can do so for disabled, elderly or other customers who find its services difficult to use.
