Would you take money from these dudes? In a September 2011 GeekWire post, John Cook spotlighted a playful rap video by four Foundry Group investors, presented as a send-up of startup investing rather than advice on raising venture capital.
Who made the video?
Cook identified the performers as Foundry Group investors Brad Feld, Seth Levine, Ryan McIntyre, and Jason Mendelson. The post framed the video as humor aimed at entrepreneurs and linked to it on YouTube.
What are they rapping about?
The lyrics joke about familiar startup-funding and deal-making themes, including turning to friends and family for money, nondisclosure agreements, and the contrast between emotional rapport and legal terms. Cook quoted these lines:
“I am a VC. I am a VC. Don’t go with friends and family because you complete me.”

“Hey, will you wear the look? It’s all about the feelings, not the legal terms. When you mentioned NDA, I got concerned. Don’t want to fall in love, and then get burned.”
The lines are excerpts from the video as reproduced in Cook’s post; they are not separately attributed spoken remarks.

The startup-world references in the post
Cook joked that portfolio companies BigDoor and Urban Airship might be keepers of embarrassing material. He also referred to Foundry Group leading a $30 million Cheezburger Network funding round. That figure is a historical detail reported in GeekWire in 2011, not a current valuation or a statement about the company today.

The post is best read as a lighthearted snapshot of startup culture in 2011. Its jokes about funding, NDAs, and investor-founder chemistry are not a guide to choosing financing or negotiating an investment. Cook’s article does not establish whether the linked video remains available or whether it later received a physical release.
