Yes. Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis confirmed that the brand’s forthcoming North American midsize pickup will be called Dakota. The name is confirmed, but the truck’s final specifications and on-sale date are not: production was reported for 2027 at Toledo, Ohio.
Ram’s new North American truck will be called Dakota
Kuniskis confirmed the name at a media presentation in Detroit on December 18, 2025, according to Road & Track. “Yeah, it’ll be called a Dakota,” the report quotes him as saying. “It’s a no-brainer, though, right? Why wouldn’t you call it a Dakota?” Car and Driver also reported the confirmation that day.
Dakota is a returning nameplate, not a disclosed promise that the new pickup will share engineering or specifications with its predecessors. Road & Track says Dodge introduced the name in 1987 and the previous Dakota left the market in 2011.
When will the Ram Dakota come out?
Car and Driver and Road & Track reported that North American production was planned for 2027 at Toledo, Ohio. That is a production schedule, not a confirmed showroom or customer-delivery date. The reports do not establish an exact debut, order-opening, or on-sale date.

What is known—and still unknown—about the truck?
The CEO’s statement confirms the name, and the reports identify a production plan and location. They do not establish the North American truck’s final platform, engine lineup, trims, price, fuel economy, towing capacity, payload, or dimensions.
Car and Driver described gas and plug-in-hybrid powertrains as possibilities, not confirmed specifications. Until Ram announces the lineup, buyers should not treat either powertrain option—or any estimated price—as final.

Do not confuse the North American Dakota with the South American truck
Stellantis has also announced a Ram Dakota for South American markets. It is a separate regional program from the North American truck confirmed in December 2025.

Stellantis Media’s August 13, 2025 announcement described the Dakota Nightfall Concept as a preview of a midsize pickup for Brazil and other South American markets, with production at the Córdoba pickup hub. A later Stellantis Media update said the production truck would launch in Brazil in 2026 and be made in Córdoba. Those South American dates, factory details, and vehicle descriptions do not establish specifications or availability for the North American Dakota.
