Stellantis canceled its planned all-electric Ram 1500 in February 2026, but the evidence does not show that Ram customers broadly rejected EV pickups or that a Dakota EREV is confirmed for the U.S. Stellantis cited customer demand among the reasons the BEV could not reach profitable scale. Separately, Ram said customers in Brazil had asked for a midsize pickup before it launched the new Dakota there. Those company statements are not a quantified survey of buyer preferences.
What happened to the all-electric Ram 1500?
Stellantis’s February 2026 business reset canceled the previously planned Ram 1500 battery-electric vehicle (BEV). The company said the canceled products could not achieve profitable scale, citing customer demand and changes in U.S. regulations. Its announcement reported approximately €22.2 billion in charges for the second half of 2025; that figure is financial context for the reset, not a measure of customer interest in electric pickups. The cancellation means the former plan and its target specifications should not be read as a current order opportunity or production promise. In 2023, Stellantis described the all-electric Ram 1500 REV with a standard 168-kWh battery and targeted range of up to 350 miles, or an optional 229-kWh battery and targeted range of up to 500 miles. Those were historical targets for the BEV plan that was later canceled. 2023 Ram 1500 REV announcement
Was the Ramcharger the same truck as the REV?
No. The names referred to different announced powertrains. The planned REV was battery-electric; the Ramcharger was announced as a range-extended electric vehicle (EREV), also called a range-extended EV or REEV. In the Ramcharger layout described by Stellantis, electric motors drive the truck and a gasoline engine powers an onboard generator. The engine is not described as directly driving the wheels in that announcement. Ramcharger announcement, December 18, 2024

| Question | Planned battery-electric REV | Announced Ramcharger EREV |
|---|---|---|
| What drives the truck? | Electric drive using energy stored in a battery. | Electric drive; an onboard gasoline engine powers a generator. |
| Does the announced layout include an onboard fuel source? | No gasoline generator is described in the cited BEV announcement. | Yes, the announced system includes a gasoline-powered generator. |
| What was its status after the 2026 reset? | The previously planned Ram 1500 BEV was canceled in February 2026. | The December 2024 release moved it ahead of the then-planned REV, but the materials cited here do not establish final current production timing or specifications. |
The distinction matters to buyers weighing charging access. A BEV depends on charging its battery; the announced EREV architecture also included gasoline for generating electricity when needed. That does not establish the Ramcharger’s final real-world range, fuel use, charging requirements, or current availability. Stellantis’s December 2024 release forecast U.S. consumer orders in the first half of 2025 for Ramcharger and a 2026 REV launch. Those dates were plans at the time, and the REV plan was subsequently canceled.
Is the new Ram Dakota coming to the United States?
The cited Dakota launch was in Brazil, not the United States. Ram announced in February 2026 that it had officially launched the midsize Dakota in Brazil after presenting it publicly in 2025. The announcement described Warlock and Laramie versions, both with a 2.2-liter turbodiesel rated at 200 cv and 450 Nm for that market. These are Brazil-market announcement specifications, not evidence of U.S. specifications or availability. Ram Brazil’s Dakota launch announcement

Ram’s U.S. Dakota page concerns the older Dakota, discontinued after model year 2011. It says Ram currently has no midsize pickup in its U.S. lineup; it does not announce a U.S. version of the Brazil-market truck. The page directs owners of the historical model to parts, accessories, and an owner’s manual, but that is not fitment information for the newer Dakota. Ram’s U.S. Dakota page

Ram’s South America head, Juliano Machado, said in the official Brazil announcement: “The question we heard most from our customers was when we would have a midsize pickup in our range.” That is the company’s account of customer requests in the context of its Brazil launch. It does not establish how many customers asked, whether the requests represent a majority, or whether U.S. customers want the same product.

Likewise, Stellantis attributed the canceled BEV’s inability to reach profitable scale partly to customer demand, but the cited announcement provides no independent survey statistic or percentage showing that customers as a whole were unready for an electric Ram. The available statements support a narrower conclusion: Stellantis says demand and profitability affected its product decision, while Ram says it heard requests for a midsize truck in South America.

What a buyer should take from the announcements
- For an all-electric Ram 1500: the previously planned BEV was canceled in February 2026, so its old battery and range targets are not current product specifications.
- For a range-extended Ram: the Ramcharger was a distinct EREV proposal with electric drive and an onboard gasoline generator. The cited announcements do not settle its final production timing, final specifications, or current availability.
- For a midsize Dakota: the new truck’s cited launch is Brazil’s 2026 model introduction. No U.S. launch or Dakota EREV is established by these announcements.
