Rackspace Technology appointed Paul J. Guerra as its chief information security officer (CISO) in March 2026 and named Timothy Wade deputy CISO. Guerra leads governance, compliance, risk management and the company’s security-transformation strategy; Wade oversees security architecture, controls and response.

Who are Rackspace’s new security leaders?

Paul J. Guerra, CISO

Rackspace’s annual filing says its CISO joined the company in March 2026, and the company identifies Guerra as the executive in that role. The filing describes him as an experienced cybersecurity leader who has held CISO and chief security officer positions at a global e-commerce platform, held senior leadership posts in technology and financial services, and led a major post-breach security recovery. What does Guerra oversee?

Rackspace says Guerra will lead governance, compliance and risk management while advancing its enterprise security-transformation strategy. The annual filing describes the CISO’s responsibility across the cybersecurity lifecycle: identifying, protecting against, detecting, responding to and recovering from cybersecurity risks and incidents. The role also covers operational-efficiency initiatives. Rackspace annual filing Rackspace appointment announcement

In practical terms, the remit joins program-level oversight—such as risk and compliance—with the work of improving how the company protects its systems and responds when threats arise. Wade’s focus on architecture, controls and response gives the two roles distinct, related scopes.

How does board oversight work?

Rackspace says its Audit Committee oversees cybersecurity risk. It typically receives cybersecurity-specific updates quarterly from the CISO and other key personnel. Those briefings cover threats, incidents, program improvements and changes in the threat landscape. Rackspace cybersecurity oversight disclosure

Why does the appointment matter to Rackspace customers?

Rackspace operates customer cloud environments across major platforms and positions security and compliance as important to customers in regulated and mission-critical settings. The leadership structure is relevant to that proposition: Guerra’s governance, compliance and risk remit addresses oversight, while Wade’s remit includes technical architecture, controls and response. The appointment announcement does not disclose a new product or a specific change to customer security services. Rackspace cloud and security information

What is known about the reason for the leadership change?

Rackspace has described the purpose of Guerra’s role as advancing its security-transformation strategy, resilience and operational efficiency. The public announcement and filing do not state that the appointment was prompted by a particular incident or identify a specific new threat. Guerra’s reported prior experience includes leading a major post-breach recovery, but Rackspace has not tied that experience to a stated reason for his appointment.
