Celebrity Net Worth estimates that R. Lee Ermey was worth $4 million when he died in 2018. That is a secondary-site estimate, not a verified public valuation of his estate; the sources reviewed do not establish his assets, debts, or the amount ultimately passed to heirs.
Where the $4 million estimate comes from
Celebrity Net Worth gives Ermey’s net worth as $4 million at the time of his death. The site does not provide a primary accounting, asset schedule, probate valuation, or explanation of how it calculated the figure. It should therefore be read as an estimate, not as a confirmed estate total.

Ermey’s career in brief
Ermey served in the U.S. Marine Corps for roughly eleven years. A Marine Corps account says injuries cut short his service and he was medically retired as a staff sergeant in 1972. His official biography describes service in Vietnam and Okinawa, work as a drill instructor, and acting studies in the Philippines after his retirement.
After Francis Ford Coppola cast him in Apocalypse Now, Ermey built a long film and television career. He became widely known as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket, voiced Sarge in the Toy Story films, and hosted Mail Call. His official biography says he appeared in more than sixty feature films; that is a career count, not evidence of what he earned.

What his work does—and does not—show about his finances
Ermey’s official biography also lists spokesperson work for brands including Glock, Victory Motorcycles, SOG Specialty Knives & Tools, and TRU-SPEC, as well as his partly autobiographical book, Gunny’s Rules: How to Get Squared Away Like a Marine. These credits show that his work extended beyond acting, but the biography gives no compensation amounts or contract terms.
Neither a long list of screen credits nor military service, endorsements, or book publication establishes a person’s net worth. Without documented pay, residuals, investments, property, debts, and other assets, those career details cannot verify the $4 million estimate.

Ermey died on April 15, 2018, aged 74, according to the Los Angeles Times obituary reproduced by Legacy.com. The sources reviewed do not provide a primary estate inventory, financial filing, or compensation disclosure establishing the value of his estate. The most supportable answer is therefore the attributed $4 million estimate, with the important qualification that a verified public estate valuation has not been established.
The Washington Post obituary relays a 1987 Associated Press remark by Ermey: “I figure I’ve fought the Vietnam War five times.” He was referring to repeatedly portraying the war on screen, not to his actual military service or his finances.
