Quinton J. Hall’s federal case against HD Supply is a set of allegations and a demand for money, not a verdict. The forklift battery incident
According to the December 2025 release, Hall alleges that a forklift battery at the Forest Park facility malfunctioned on June 27, 2024, and that he was injured. Some coverage calls the event a forklift fire. The reporting reviewed here does not establish a fire or explosion. It describes a battery malfunction as Hall describes it, and the injury, its cause, and its severity are all claims that the defendant has not been shown to have accepted.

Treatment, accommodation and termination
The same release describes later disputes over how Hall was treated at work, whether he received accommodation, and the end of his employment. These are Hall’s characterizations. The reporting does not include HD Supply’s documentation of those events.
The witness-retaliation theory
The amended pleading adds a retaliation theory under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. As TechBullion describes it, the theory concerns retaliation against a witness. Whether the alleged retaliation happened is unresolved. HD Supply has denied liability, according to the same report.

The June 2026 amendment ruling
The most recent reported development is procedural. A magistrate judge granted Hall leave to file a Second Amended Complaint. The question before the court was whether the proposed amendment was futile, meaning whether the new theory could not succeed even if its facts were proven. The court’s decision on that question is not a finding that the events occurred.

Did a judge rule in Hall’s favor?
No ruling on the merits has been reported. The June 2026 decision allowed Hall to amend his pleading. It was a decision about what he may file next, not about who is right. A merits decision would address whether the facts support the claims, usually after evidence has been developed or after a motion asks the court to decide the case as a matter of law. Neither is reported here. Winning permission to amend is a procedural step that many cases take before any merits decision is reached.

What the $50 million figure does and does not mean
The $50 million is the amount Hall’s complaint asks for. Demand figures in complaints are often set by the plaintiff and frequently change as a case develops. A demand tells you what a party is asking for. It does not tell you what the claims are worth, what a court would award, or whether any money will change hands.
What is still unknown
- Whether the court has issued any order after June 16, 2026, including rulings on a motion to dismiss or a request for summary judgment.
- Whether HD Supply has filed an answer or other responsive pleading to the Second Amended Complaint.
- Whether the case has settled, been dismissed, or is proceeding toward trial. Secondary reporting reviewed here does not establish a current status.
- The full text of the complaint and the June 2026 order. Both were not available in the reporting consulted, so descriptions of their contents are secondhand.
How to check the current status
- Search the federal court’s PACER system for case number 1:25-cv-06567 in the Northern District of Georgia. PACER charges per page for document access, though fees may be waived under certain thresholds.
- Open the docket sheet and sort entries by date. Look for any order entered after June 16, 2026.
- Download the Second Amended Complaint to confirm which claims it actually asserts, rather than relying on summaries.
- Check for entries showing a motion to dismiss, an answer, a stay, a settlement notice, or a dismissal order.
- Search news coverage dated after July 2, 2026, and compare any reported ruling against the docket entry it cites.
A docket entry is the reliable record. Press releases and secondary articles can be incomplete, and they can lag behind filings.

Until the docket shows otherwise, the accurate description of the case is this: Hall has made serious allegations against HD Supply, has asked for $50 million, and has been allowed to amend his complaint to add a retaliation theory. HD Supply denies liability. No court has decided whether the allegations are true.
