More than 200 drivers at Amazon’s DBK1 delivery facility in Woodside, Queens, have organized with Teamsters Local 804 and are demanding a union contract, according to the union’s October 7, 2026 announcement. The announcement does not say that Amazon has begun bargaining or that the drivers have secured a contract.
What happened at Amazon’s DBK1 facility?
The Teamsters said drivers at DBK1 joined Local 804 and that the union’s Amazon National Negotiating Committee extended picket lines at the facility while pressing for bargaining. Local 804 reported that the group numbers more than 200 drivers. These figures and descriptions come from the union; they have not been independently verified in the sources available for this report.
LeAnn Rivera, a DBK1 driver and new Local 804 member, said the campaign helped workers see the value of organizing: “My co-workers and I have seen how scared Amazon is of the Delivery Protection Act, and it made us realize that we only have power if we join a union.” That is Rivera’s account of the campaign, not an independent assessment of Amazon’s position.
The Teamsters describe the DBK1 effort as part of a wider campaign involving more than 10,000 Amazon workers nationwide who have organized with the union. That total is the Teamsters’ figure, not an independent count. The union’s October 7 announcement and Local 804’s account identify DBK1 as the site of the latest organizing push.

Are the drivers bargaining with Amazon, and do they have a contract?
The announcement establishes that the drivers are demanding a contract and that the union says it is pressing for bargaining. It does not establish that negotiations have started, that Amazon has recognized an obligation to bargain with this group, or that the drivers have signed a contract. Those are separate milestones, and the available announcement reports none as completed.
José Huerta, a DBK1 driver, said: “Seeing hundreds of New York City Amazon workers strike last year was a wakeup call for us. If we want a better future at Amazon, we have to be willing to fight for it.” His statement was published by Local 804 and describes the workers’ motivation.
Who employs Amazon delivery drivers?
Amazon’s delivery network relies on third-party Delivery Service Partners, or DSPs. An Associated Press report from December 2024 described delivery drivers as employees of those DSP businesses and noted Amazon’s position that the drivers are not Amazon employees. The Teamsters argue that Amazon exercises substantial control over drivers and has bargaining obligations. The employment relationship and any joint-employer responsibility are contested; the historical reporting does not resolve the legal status of the DBK1 drivers in October 2026.

Teamsters Amazon Division Director Randy Korgan characterized the DSP model as a way to limit worker rights and safety, saying: “Amazon created the DSP model to suppress workers’ rights and safety, including the right to form a union.” That is the union official’s allegation, not an independently established finding. What do the Queens drivers want in a contract?
The immediate demand in the October 7 announcement is bargaining for a Teamsters contract. Earlier public statements about Queens organizing campaigns identified worker priorities that included:
- Higher pay and health care
- Job security and more consistent schedules
- Properly maintained trucks
- Reasonable workloads
Those priorities were reported in connection with earlier Queens campaigns. They provide context, but should not be treated as a complete or final DBK1 contract proposal.

What is New York City’s Delivery Protection Act?
The Delivery Protection Act is a proposed New York City measure, not an enacted law according to the October 2026 accounts. Labor Notes described the proposal as requiring covered delivery companies to employ drivers directly and set safety, training, and labor standards. Its October report said the measure had majority City Council support; the Teamsters described support as a supermajority. These are dated descriptions of political backing, not evidence that the bill passed.
The union has attributed 11,446 door-knocks across four New York City boroughs to its campaign as of October 3, 2026. That is a campaign figure reported by Labor Notes, which attributed it to the Teamsters, rather than an independently verified measure of support. The DBK1 story involves three distinct questions: whether bargaining begins, how the contested employment relationship is treated, and whether the proposed city bill advances into law. The October 7 announcement addresses the organizing and contract demand, but it does not settle any of those later outcomes. The union also said the DBK1 drivers joined hundreds of co-workers who had organized the prior year; that history provides context for the current campaign, not proof of a contract or bargaining agreement.
