The reports named separate projects and gave different kinds of figures: one project had more than 8,000 artworks, while another had 522 items and reported 0.23 ETH in sales by publication. Those are snapshots of specific collections, not an audited count of all listings or proof of royal or OpenSea endorsement.
What Queen Elizabeth NFTs appeared on OpenSea?
Contemporary reports described a rapid wave of Queen-related listings after her death. They identified at least two distinct projects; their figures should not be combined because one refers to artworks in a project and the other to a separate collection’s items and reported sales.
| Project | What the report counted | Reported sales | Source and timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| RIP The Queen Official | More than 8,000 digital artworks in this project. Reuters, carried by Investing.com, also characterized the wider activity as thousands of Queen-related NFTs listed on OpenSea since the announcement; that was not an audited marketplace total. | Not stated in the cited report. | Reuters reporting carried by Investing.com, 2022; the report described the project as appearing within hours of the announcement. |
| RIP Queen Elizabeth II “memorial” collection | 522 items in this separate collection. | 0.23 ETH ($394) in sales by the time of publication. This is the September 9, 2022 snapshot and dollar conversion reported at the time, not a current value. | Blockworks, September 9, 2022. |
The figures measure different things. An artwork or item count describes what a collection contained, not how many tokens sold, how many buyers participated, or how much trading took place across OpenSea. Neither report supplies a consistent, independently audited dataset for comparing sales, unique buyers, or later trading.
How many Queen Elizabeth NFTs were listed?
Reuters, in a report carried by Investing.com in 2022, said thousands of Queen-related NFTs had been listed on OpenSea since the announcement and reported more than 8,000 digital artworks in the RIP The Queen Official project. The first figure is the report’s broad characterization, while the second belongs to one named project; neither should be presented as an exact, verified platform-wide total.

Blockworks’ separate September 9, 2022 report counted 522 items in the RIP Queen Elizabeth II “memorial” collection. It also reported 0.23 ETH ($394) in sales for that collection by publication. That sales figure is a time-specific snapshot, not the value of all items listed or a later total.

The contemporary reporting establishes that the projects were reported as listed on OpenSea. It does not establish that Queen Elizabeth II’s estate or the royal household authorized them, that OpenSea endorsed them, or that every listed item sold. A project’s name, listing, or apparent memorial theme is not evidence of official affiliation.

OpenSea’s general platform policies also do not settle the status of these specific projects. In an August 9, 2022 post, OpenSea described verification and a copymint-detection system for badged collections, saying it could detect and remove copies within two hours of their appearance. That was a company description of a system, not evidence that either named Queen collection was badged, approved, detected, or removed: OpenSea’s August 2022 post.
Later policy materials provide context, not a record of what happened to these listings in 2022. OpenSea’s February 2025 guidance says delisted items may remain on the blockchain and in the owner’s wallet even when they are no longer visible on the marketplace: OpenSea’s delisting guidance. Its May 2025 policy describes moderation options such as limiting discovery or transactions, or hiding content, and distinguishes clearly disclosed celebrity references from false affiliation or impersonation: OpenSea’s policy materials. These general rules do not verify the later visibility or enforcement status of either named collection.

What the reports do—and do not—show
- They show timing and examples: reports published September 9 and 10, 2022 described activity soon after the September 8 death announcement.
- They do not establish complete marketplace totals: “thousands” was a report’s characterization, not an audited count of every Queen-related listing.
- They do not make item counts interchangeable with sales: the more-than-8,000 figure belongs to artworks in one project; the 0.23 ETH figure is reported sales for a different, 522-item collection.
- They do not establish intent or endorsement: the available reports do not verify each creator’s motivation, royal authorization, or OpenSea approval.
