March 2026 coverage reported that the IRS filed a federal tax lien against rapper Quavo, whose legal name is Quavious Keyate Marshall, for a reported $2,912,644.33 in unpaid federal income taxes for tax years 2021 through 2023. That figure is the reported assessment, not a confirmed current payoff amount. A tax lien is a legal claim against property; it does not, by itself, mean the IRS seized anything.
What was reported about Quavo’s tax lien?
HOT 97 reported on March 4, 2026, citing documents reported by TMZ, that a lien was filed in January over alleged unpaid federal income taxes. The underlying Notice of Federal Tax Lien was not independently available for verification, so the figures below are those reported by HOT 97, not independently confirmed account records.
| Tax year | Amount reported |
|---|---|
| 2021 | $915,660 |
| 2022 | $887,486 |
| 2023 | $1,109,497.79 |
| Total | $2,912,644.33 |
The headline shorthand “$3 million” rounds the reported total. It should not be read as the amount required to settle the account today: the IRS says a Notice of Federal Tax Lien reflects the assessed balance as of the notice date, which may differ from the payoff amount. See IRS guidance on federal tax liens and Publication 594, The IRS Collection Process.
What does a federal tax lien mean?
The IRS describes a federal tax lien as a legal claim against a taxpayer’s property after the IRS assesses a tax liability, sends a bill, and the taxpayer does not pay the amount due in full on time. Filing a Notice of Federal Tax Lien gives public notice to creditors. The claim can reach property and property rights the taxpayer has now or acquires later.

A lien is not a levy
A lien establishes the government’s legal claim; a levy is the collection action that takes property or property rights, such as wages or money held in an account. The reported lien does not establish that Quavo’s assets were seized.
A lien report is not a criminal charge
The coverage describes an alleged civil tax-collection matter. It does not establish criminal charges or criminal proceedings.

What is known about the response or current status?
HOT 97 said Quavo had not publicly responded as of its March 4, 2026, report. That report does not establish whether he or a representative commented later, whether the reported balance was paid or disputed, or whether the lien remains active. No current outcome is confirmed by the cited coverage.

- Release: Full payment is the usual route to removing a federal tax lien. The IRS says it releases the lien within 30 days after the tax debt is paid in full.
- Discharge: Removes the lien from specific property, rather than resolving the lien against all property.
- Subordination: Changes the government’s place in line relative to other creditors; it does not remove the lien.
- Withdrawal: Removes the public Notice of Federal Tax Lien, but does not necessarily erase the underlying tax liability.
The IRS also says taxpayers receive notice of appeal rights after the first filing of a Notice of Federal Tax Lien and describes a Collection Due Process hearing. Whether Quavo challenged the filing or sought an appeal is not established by the reporting cited here. Additional procedural details appear in IRS lien guidance, Publication 594, and the IRS page on withdrawing a Notice of Federal Tax Lien.
