Qatar Airways’ 30 October 2016 announcement of expanded codesharing with British Airways named 12 European destinations from London Heathrow—not five. The release also covered British Airways domestic UK flights and the start of its nonstop London–Doha service. These are historical details; the sources available do not confirm which of the listed sectors can currently be booked with Qatar Airways codeshare flight numbers.

Which European destinations did the 2016 announcement name?

Qatar Airways listed British Airways services from London Heathrow to these 12 destinations:

  • Dublin, Ireland
  • Hamburg and Stuttgart, Germany
  • Luxembourg
  • Basel, Switzerland
  • Bilbao, Malaga, Ibiza and Palma, Spain
  • Lisbon and Faro, Portugal
  • Billund, Denmark

The release named the destinations individually; the total of 12 comes from counting that list. It does not explain why the headline phrase “5 New European Routes” uses a different number. Qatar Airways’ 30 October 2016 announcement is the source for the route names.

What else was included in the expansion?

The same announcement said the codeshare would cover British Airways flights within the UK, naming Aberdeen, Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Leeds, Bradford, Manchester and Newcastle. It connected the expansion to British Airways’ launch of nonstop London–Doha service and described seven daily flights to Heathrow.

The broader joint-business agreement had been announced on 28 September 2016 and was to take effect on 30 October. Qatar Airways said all nonstop UK–Doha flights would be codeshared and described seven daily nonstop services between London and Doha. These figures and arrangements describe the 2016 announcement, not a current schedule. Qatar Airways’ September 2016 joint-business announcement provides that context.

How did the partnership develop afterward?

On 26 September 2022, Qatar Airways said the airlines had completed another expansion of their joint business. At that time, it described a shared network of 185 destinations across more than 60 countries and said 42 countries had been added to the shared network. It cited connections through London and Doha, shared Avios earning and spending, and the option to link loyalty accounts. The announcement noted that cooperation on a small number of routes remained subject to regulatory clearance. Those network figures are specific to the 2022 statement, not a current count. Qatar Airways’ 2022 announcement gives the dated details.

Can you book these specific codeshares today?

The historical route list and British Airways’ general partnership information do not establish whether any particular sector remains available with a Qatar Airways codeshare flight number. Check the airlines’ live booking results for your travel dates before relying on the 2016 list.

When comparing itineraries, confirm the operating carrier, departure airport and connection point (London or Doha), travel date and schedule, total fare, and whether the booking channel identifies the flight as a codeshare. British Airways’ partnership information page directs customers to the airlines’ websites for booking and check-in. It says online check-in on qatarairways.com is available only for flights operated by Qatar Airways. The page also says linked British Airways Club and Qatar Privilege Club accounts enable Avios transfers, but does not verify current availability for each sector in the 2016 list.
