Public Mobile’s $29/50GB plan was a limited-time offer reported on March 28, 2025—not a current plan. It was described as Canada-wide, 4G and available to new activations through March 31, 2025. Public Mobile’s current plans page instead lists $30 for 35GB, while Fizz’s current homepage snapshot advertises 50GB for $30/month. Those are separate offers, and prices and availability can change.
What was Public Mobile’s $29/50GB offer?
On March 28, 2025, iPhone in Canada reported that Public Mobile had introduced a limited-time $29 monthly plan with 50GB of data. The report described it as a Canada-wide 4G offer for new activations, available through March 31, 2025. That expiry date has passed, so the report is not evidence that the deal can still be activated.
The report said the offer “looks to match” Fizz. That describes the apparent similarity in timing and terms; it does not establish that either carrier confirmed a motive.
How did the Public Mobile offer compare with Fizz?
The two $29/50GB reports refer to offers reported at different times and with different geographic terms. A May 15, 2026 report described Fizz’s $29/50GB plan as a 4G offer available only in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario. It is historical reporting, not confirmation of current availability.

These reports establish the headline comparison, but they do not provide a full feature-by-feature comparison of talk, text, roaming, international calling or rewards. Check the carriers’ current plan details for those terms rather than assuming that matching price and data means matching service.
What do the carriers’ current pages list?
The official plan-page snapshots accessed October 8, 2026 show different offers from the historical $29/50GB deals. Prices and plan listings are snapshots, not guarantees that the same offers will remain available.

Is the Public Mobile deal available in Quebec?
The March 2025 report described Public Mobile’s offer as Canada-wide, but it also said the deal was limited-time and for new activations. Because it expired on March 31, 2025, that description does not establish that a similar plan is available now in Quebec or elsewhere. The May 2026 Fizz report named only British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario for its reported $29/50GB offer; it did not include Quebec.

How to compare plans before switching
Choose based on the plan available to you now, rather than the historical headline price. Compare the same terms across carriers:
- Total monthly cost: confirm the price shown at checkout and whether it is an ongoing price or a limited-time promotion.
- Data and speed: check the included allowance, network generation and any speed conditions that matter for how you use your phone.
- Eligibility and location: verify province, new-activation or other eligibility rules before planning a switch.
- Included features: check talk and text, roaming, international calling and rewards separately; the historical reports do not establish that these features matched.
- Coverage where you use your phone: consult the carrier’s coverage information for your home, work and regular travel routes.
National coverage figures are context, not a local guarantee. The CRTC’s 2025 Canadian Telecommunications Market Report says 5G availability reached 93% of Canada’s population in 2023, while rural communities and First Nations reserve areas were significantly below the national average. Check service at your actual locations rather than inferring it from the population-wide figure. CRTC, Canadian Telecommunications Market Report 2025.

What the broader market figures do—and don’t—say
The CRTC reported that 77% of data-plan subscribers had plans with more than 10GB, using 2023 data in its 2025 report. It also reported a 39.2% decline in Canada’s cellular-services consumer price index between 2016 and 2023, compared with 13.4% in the United States. The CRTC cautions that this index is distinct from the price or popularity of any specific plan, so those figures do not show that either named $29 offer caused the change. The report also states: “Prices for most advertised plans have been declining, while usage has been increasing.”
