Pakistan’s KSE-100 index rose 5,702.68 points, or 3.29%, to close at 178,853.09 on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, according to Business Recorder. It was a sharp one-day rebound after several sessions of selling—not a current market quote.
What happened to the KSE-100 on 18 February?
The index opened higher and rallied through the session. Business Recorder reported an intraday high of 178,974.16 before the benchmark closed at 178,853.09, up 5,702.68 points from the previous close. The gain was 3.29%, making “over 5,700 points” an accurate rounded description.
The Express Tribune reported nearly identical figures, but with a one-hundredth-point difference: a high of 178,974.17 and a close of 178,853.10. The reports therefore agree on the scale and direction of the move while differing slightly on the exact high and close. Business Recorder’s session report and The Express Tribune’s report give their respective figures.
Why did the KSE-100 gain over 5,700 points?
Contemporaneous coverage described a return of positive sentiment and strong buying after several weak sessions. The Express Tribune said banking and fertiliser shares led the recovery and reported that strong corporate earnings supported investor confidence.

The Tribune also relayed KTrade Securities’ assessment that the preceding weakness had been associated with settlement-transition concerns, margin pressure and political noise. In that account, some easing of those pressures was followed by aggressive covering and renewed buying. These are attributed explanations from market commentary, not proof that any one factor caused the rally.
The Tribune reported that Habib Bank announced results and a dividend of Rs6 per share. That announcement was part of the session’s reported context; the coverage does not establish it as the sole or decisive trigger for the index’s rise.

How broad was the rebound, and how much traded?
The Express Tribune reported the following ready-market activity for the session:
- 1,066 million shares traded, with a value of about Rs49 billion.
- 334 stocks advanced, 103 declined and 47 were unchanged.
- K-Electric led by volume, with 117 million shares traded in its account.
These are figures reported by The Express Tribune; Business Recorder’s account focused on the index movement rather than providing the same breadth and turnover breakdown. See the Tribune’s session coverage for its account of the activity.
Is the 5,700-point gain today’s PSX reading?
No. The 5,702.68-point gain describes the KSE-100’s change on 18 February 2026. A separate PSX Data Portal search snapshot showed the index at 167,441.90, down 1,138.50 points (0.68%), at 3:48 PM on 8 October 2026. That is a later, time-stamped reading—not the February close or evidence of what happened immediately after that session. Check the PSX Data Portal for a live or latest available quote.
