Amazon’s tenth Prime Day ran July 16–17, 2024, as a 48-hour event for Prime members. The company later called it its biggest Prime Day to date, reporting record sales and more items sold than at any earlier event—but those results are Amazon’s claims, not independently audited figures.
When was Prime Day 2024?
Amazon announced that its tenth Prime Day would run for two days, July 16–17, 2024. In the United States, the event began at 12:01 a.m. PDT on July 16 and was exclusive to Prime members. Amazon said deals would span more than 35 categories, including electronics, kitchen, beauty and apparel. Amazon’s U.S. announcement was published June 25, 2024.

Amazon’s U.K. announcement also described a 48-hour event on July 16–17, but its local promotion details applied to the U.K. and should not be read as U.S. offers. The U.K. announcement listed its own featured brands and products.
What happened during Prime Day 2024?
Before the event, Amazon advertised more than 5 million deals worldwide and highlighted offers across areas such as electronics, fashion, school supplies and outdoor products. Those were pre-event promotions, not an independent assessment of the savings shoppers actually received. Amazon’s U.S. deal announcement documented examples at the time.

On July 18, 2024, Amazon said Prime Day had been its biggest event of this kind to date, with record sales and more items sold than during any previous Prime Day. It also said Prime members saved “billions” during the 48 hours, but did not give a specific dollar total in its post-event announcement.
What Amazon reported about independent sellers
Amazon said independent sellers sold more than 200 million items during the event. The company described most of its independent sellers as small and medium-sized businesses. The figure is Amazon-reported; the announcement does not provide independent transaction data or an audit of the result.

Was Prime Day 2024 Amazon’s biggest ever?
According to Amazon, yes: the company characterized Prime Day 2024 as its biggest Prime Day event ever and said it had record sales and more items sold than at any prior Prime Day. That answers the question as Amazon framed it, but the cited announcement does not establish an independently measured sales total or a dollar amount for savings. Treat “biggest ever” as the company’s retrospective claim rather than a verified industry-wide comparison.

The 2024 announcements document promotions tied to that event; they do not establish current stock, prices or savings for any named product. A product featured in an old promotion should not be treated as a current deal or recommendation. The announcements also do not show what share of advertised discounts represented savings against a consistent historical price.
