The company said it would continue online, with local pickups available. The available reports do not establish the shop’s exact final trading date or the size of the rent increase.
Why did Pretty Little Designs close its Mandurah store?
Foster said the lease was due for renewal and that the proposed increase made the rent unmanageable. She also said she had been unable to reach a reasonable agreement despite efforts to keep the shop open. PerthNow quoted her saying, “With our lease up for renewal and a new rent increase that’s simply unmanageable, I’ve had to make the heart-wrenching decision to close my dream retail store.” (PerthNow, 27 August 2024)
In a separate interview, Foster described the pressure of falling sales alongside rising rent: “The less money coming through doesn’t mean that the rent doesn’t increase.” (6PR) These accounts explain the owner’s stated reason; the reports do not include lease documents, the landlord’s response or details of the negotiations.
When did the shop close?
PerthNow reported on 27 August 2024 that the Mandurah shop had closed after two years, while also saying the retail journey would end by the end of September. That reporting does not identify a precise last trading day, so it does not confirm when the storefront stopped serving customers.
