The Premier League’s January 2027 transfer window runs from Friday 1 January to Monday 1 February, closing at 23:00 GMT. A transfer rumour—or even an agreement—does not necessarily mean a player has completed the move or is eligible to play. If you’re considering a transfer-special bet, check the exact market wording: bookmakers can differ on what counts as a transfer, whether loans qualify and how they settle an unlisted destination.
When does the January 2027 transfer window close?
The Premier League has confirmed that the window opens on Friday 1 January 2027 and closes on Monday 1 February at 23:00 GMT. The date is 1 February, not 31 January. The EFL has also listed 1 January to 1 February at 23:00 for 2026/27. See the Premier League’s window announcement.
When is a transfer actually completed?
News that clubs have reached an agreement is not the same as a completed, registered transfer. The Premier League says the relevant paperwork can include the player’s contract, the transfer agreement, work permission where required, international clearance for an overseas move and any applicable transfer levy. The league’s general rule is that a player signed during the window must be registered by midday on the last working day before the club’s next Premier League match. Late international clearance or employment-eligibility evidence must also arrive before the player can play. The Premier League explains the transfer process.
What the deadline-day deal sheet does—and does not do
For a 23:00 deadline, the Premier League allows a deal sheet to be filed from 21:00, with remaining documents due by 01:00. This is an administrative allowance for completing paperwork after an agreement; it is not a general two-hour extension to every part of every transfer. International moves still have to meet FIFA’s Transfer Matching System midnight deadline. The Premier League’s 2026/27 handbook is listed as published on 31 July 2026. Read the league’s practical guide to transfer deals and check its publications index.

How transfer-special bets can be settled differently
There is no universal settlement rule for transfer bets. Compare the market’s specific terms rather than assuming every operator treats a deal the same way.
| Settlement question | Betfair Sportsbook example | Sky Bet Football Specials example |
|---|---|---|
| What event counts? | A future-dated transfer is treated as occurring when the agreement is completed, not on the later effective move date. | The market is framed around whether the named player signs for the nominated club during the January window and by the date in the market name. |
| Do loans count? | Yes. Betfair’s published rules count loans as transfers. | Not stated in the cited Sky Bet rule description; check the current market terms. |
| What if the player joins an unlisted club? | If the player joins a club not quoted in the market, bets on a different specified destination stand and lose under the stated rule. | The rules address a move to an unquoted club; check the market’s current wording to establish the settlement for your selection. |
| What if the player does not move by the named date? | Not stated in the cited Betfair rule description; check the market terms. | The rules address a player failing to move by the specified date; settlement follows the market’s terms. |
These are examples from the operators’ published rules, not a guarantee that a particular market will be offered in January 2027. Rules can change, and the applicable terms may depend on your jurisdiction. Before placing a bet, check:

- Whether the market settles on agreement, registration or the move’s effective date.
- Whether a permanent transfer and a loan are treated alike.
- What happens if the player joins a club that is not listed.
- The exact deadline and timezone in the market name or rules.
- The operator’s current rules and the terms that apply where you are.

Can betting odds tell you whether a player will sign?
Odds are prices offered for a bet, not proof that a transfer will happen or a measured forecast of a bookmaker’s accuracy. No published statistic on transfer-market predictive accuracy, betting profitability or the share of January rumours that become completed deals is established here. No live odds or 2027 transfer-special listings have been verified, so there is no basis for presenting a current price or claiming that a particular rumour is likely to win.

Who is restricted from betting on football transfers?
The FA says covered participants in the Premier League and other listed competitions must not bet, directly or indirectly, on football matches or competitions anywhere in the world. Its rules also cover football-related matters such as player transfers, and prohibit passing inside information for betting or telling another person to bet. This participant restriction should not be assumed to apply identically to every reader. Read the FA’s betting guidelines.

What gambling sponsorship changes mean for transfer betting
Football authorities’ gambling sponsorship code sets out four principles: protection, social responsibility, reinvestment and integrity. Premier League clubs agreed to withdraw gambling sponsorship from the front of matchday shirts from the end of the 2025/26 season. That is a scoped shirt-front sponsorship commitment, not a ban on every form of gambling sponsorship or on betting markets. The Premier League’s statement on the gambling code.
