The distinction between agreement and closing matters: the initial announcement said Precisely had agreed to acquire Winshuttle, while the later Precisely customer FAQ confirms the acquisition was completed in June 2021.
What Winshuttle did
Founded in 2003, Winshuttle built software to automate data-intensive business processes, particularly in SAP environments. Its tools helped business and IT teams move data into enterprise systems, validate changes, and manage repeatable workflows. These capabilities can be important where finance, human resources, supply-chain, or other teams make frequent changes to records that feed multiple systems.
Winshuttle also offered master data management (MDM): processes and software for maintaining consistent core records, such as product or supplier information, across an organization. That makes it incomplete to describe Winshuttle only as an automation or robotic process automation company. Precisely characterized it as a provider of both process automation and MDM software with deep SAP expertise in its transaction announcement.

GeekWire reported at the time that Winshuttle had more than 2,500 customers and more than 300 employees. Those are figures from GeekWire’s reporting, not transaction metrics certified by Precisely. The company was based in Bothell, in the Seattle area, rather than Seattle proper.
Why Precisely wanted Winshuttle
Extend data integrity into day-to-day work
Precisely’s stated rationale was that automation could help reduce errors created when people manually enter or move data. Winshuttle added tools that act on data as business processes occur, complementing Precisely’s existing work in data integration, quality, governance, enrichment, and location intelligence. That is the strategic argument made by the companies, not a measured claim that the deal produced a specific error reduction or return on investment.
Rank #2
Add SAP expertise and master data management
Winshuttle brought a longstanding focus on SAP systems, where changes to master records can affect downstream operations. The combination gave Precisely a way to connect automation and MDM with its broader data-integrity portfolio. Precisely CEO Josh Rogers emphasized automation and SAP expertise; Winshuttle CEO John Pierson described Precisely as a fit because of its focus on trusted data and complementary software. These were executives’ explanations for the deal, not independently verified post-acquisition outcomes.
Build a broader software platform
The acquisition also fit a buy-and-build strategy backed by private-equity sponsors. Clearlake and TA Associates presented the transaction as a step toward expanding a data-integrity software platform through acquisitions as well as organic growth. Precisely had completed its acquisition of data-governance provider Infogix shortly before announcing Winshuttle, according to its company history.
How the deal fits the ownership timeline
STG had acquired Winshuttle in May 2018, as its announcement at the time records. The 2021 transaction therefore moved Winshuttle from one private-equity-owned software business to a company backed by different sponsors. Precisely itself was backed by Clearlake and TA Associates when it announced the deal. This context helps explain the transaction as part of consolidation in enterprise data software, but the available announcements do not disclose a valuation, revenue multiple, retention package, or quantified synergy target.
Precisely’s acquisition history places Winshuttle among a series of additions to its portfolio, including Infogix and later PlaceIQ. Precisely described its broader aim as bringing together capabilities across data integration, quality, governance, automation, and related services.
What happened to Winshuttle’s products and company
Winshuttle is no longer a separate brand in the same way it was before the acquisition. Precisely says that former Winshuttle SAP automation products, including capabilities associated with Studio and Evolve, are now within the Precisely Automate product family. Its MDM capabilities are associated with Precisely EnterWorks. Precisely’s Winshuttle FAQ and product transition page describe that positioning.
The legal integration followed over time. Precisely’s entity-consolidation notice says the former Winshuttle LLC name changed to Precisely Software Incorporated effective February 15, 2022, and that Winshuttle LLC merged into Precisely on August 1, 2022. This confirms that the transition involved more than a change in ownership, though a legal-entity change alone does not establish the status of every legacy product, license, or support arrangement.

What former Winshuttle customers should verify
Because product names and legal entities changed, existing customers should confirm details against their own contracts and deployments rather than assume every old name, SKU, or support route remains unchanged. Useful questions for Precisely or an authorized account contact include:
- Which current Automate or EnterWorks product corresponds to the licensed Winshuttle product and functionality?
- What support, upgrade, renewal, and contracting terms apply to the specific agreement?
- Are existing workflows supported as-is, or do any need migration or modification?
- Does the current product support the organization’s SAP versions, integrations, and deployment requirements?
- What cloud and on-premises options, connectors, and security controls are available for the intended use?
The acquisition announcement does not answer those customer-specific questions. Precisely’s transition materials establish the current product-family mapping, but customers should obtain current terms and compatibility details for their own environment.
How to think about the market implications
The deal is most relevant to organizations running SAP or similarly complex enterprise systems, especially those handling many recurring master-data changes that require validation, approvals, and auditability. It is less directly relevant to small businesses without an SAP footprint, buyers seeking only generic desktop automation, or organizations already standardized on another workflow platform.
For a new evaluation, distinguish SAP-centric data automation from broad workflow orchestration and general-purpose robotic process automation. Precisely’s positioning builds on Winshuttle’s SAP history within a wider data-integrity portfolio. SAP Build Process Automation is a separate alternative for organizations invested in SAP’s cloud ecosystem; SAP documents a Free Plan for testing and proof-of-concept work and a Standard Plan for productive use, with entitlements rather than a simple public flat rate. See SAP’s documentation on free access and subscriptions. SAP documentation also directs SAP Intelligent RPA customers toward migration to SAP Build Process Automation (SAP Intelligent RPA documentation).

That is a product-positioning comparison, not a performance benchmark. The better fit depends on the buyer’s SAP architecture, deployment model, governance requirements, and existing software commitments; the public transaction materials do not establish a universally superior platform.
