The best-supported figure for Michael Eisner’s net worth is a historical estimate, not a current valuation: BBC Sport reported in August 2017 that Forbes estimated it at $1 billion. By comparison, Forbes publications listed Aston Villa co-owner Nassef Sawiris at $9.6 billion and Fulham owner Shahid Khan at $15 billion in 2026. These estimates come from different years and do not establish Eisner’s present-day net worth or rank.
What is Michael Eisner worth?
BBC Sport’s August 2017 report on Eisner’s Portsmouth takeover said Forbes estimated his net worth at $1 billion. That is the available sourced figure, but it is nine years old; it should not be presented as a verified 2026 estimate. The report also described the takeover terms: an offer of £5.67 million for 100% of the club and a further £10 million investment commitment at the time. BBC Sport, August 2017.
Net worth is an estimate of assets minus liabilities, not a measure of cash readily available to spend. A published estimate can change with asset values, liabilities and methodology. The available figures do not establish Eisner’s current wealth or let us place him reliably in a current owner ranking.
How does Eisner compare with wealthy Premier League owners?
Two dated examples show the scale of some Premier League owners’ published estimates. The figures below are estimates reported by the named publishers, not audited balances or directly comparable cash holdings.
#1 Best Overall
| Owner | Premier League club | Published estimate | Publisher | Estimate year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Michael Eisner | Portsmouth is not a Premier League club | $1 billion | Forbes estimate reported by BBC Sport | 2017 |
| Nassef Sawiris | Aston Villa | $9.6 billion | Forbes Middle East | 2026 |
| Shahid Khan | Fulham | $15 billion | Forbes Brasil | 2026 |
Sources: BBC Sport’s 2017 Eisner report, Forbes Middle East’s 2026 Nassef Sawiris profile and Forbes Brasil’s 2026 sports-team owners list.
The table is illustrative, not a definitive list of the richest current Premier League owners. Eisner’s estimate predates the others by nine years, so it cannot support a same-date comparison or a claim about where he would rank today.
Who owns Portsmouth now?
Portsmouth’s ownership is shared among members of the Eisner family on paper. BBC Sport reported in March 2026 that each of Michael Eisner’s sons—Breck, Eric and Anders—holds 24.5% of Portsmouth FC LLC, which owns the men’s and women’s teams. Eisner retains 26.5% and full voting rights; the club described the transfer as succession planning. BBC Sport also reported that Eisner remained the only person with a “significant interest” under the EFL definition cited in its report. BBC Sport, March 2026.
That distinction matters: shares describe economic ownership, while voting rights describe control. The family’s share transfer does not, by itself, provide a new estimate of Eisner’s personal net worth.

Why Portsmouth’s finances do not reveal Eisner’s net worth
Club accounts and reported investment figures describe different things from an owner’s personal wealth. BBC Sport reported that Portsmouth recorded a £4.36 million loss for the 2024-25 financial year and that the Eisner family had invested £54 million since its 2017 acquisition. The loss is a club result; the investment is cumulative family funding, not a statement of current personal wealth or remaining funds. BBC Sport, March 2026.
Forbes reported Portsmouth had £33.5 million in net assets and no debt as of 30 June 2024. It also reported £46.8 million in Eisner-family investment through June 2024. Net assets are the club’s assets less its liabilities at a stated date, not the owner’s net worth. The different investment totals refer to different reporting periods. Forbes, April 2025.
These figures should not be added together or treated as interchangeable measures. A club’s accounts do not establish how much an owner can or will spend, and reported investment does not determine the owner’s current assets or liabilities.

Premier League clubs do not all have the same kind of owner. A 2025 Norton Rose Fulbright report categorized majority ownership in the 2024-25 season as private equity, corporate, individual or family, consortium, or hedge fund. It describes that season and should not be treated as a roster for 2026-27. Norton Rose Fulbright, 2025 ownership report.

Comparisons are most meaningful when they use estimates for the same year and the same type of subject. An individual’s estimated net worth should not be equated with a company’s or investment fund’s assets, nor should a consortium’s combined resources be assigned to one person. Published estimates also vary by publisher and methodology. With no current, consistently measured Eisner estimate and no comprehensive 2026-27 ranking established here, a precise present-day league position would be misleading.
