Port of Cork profit and performance in 2025
The 2025 result covers the financial year ending 31 December. The Irish Examiner reported the following Port of Cork Company figures, alongside the comparable 2024 results:
| Measure | 2025 | 2024 |
|---|---|---|
| Profit after tax | €7.95 million | €5.43 million |
| Profit before tax | Approximately €8.5 million | Not stated in the cited 2025 results account |
| Operating profit | €9.1 million | €6.9 million |
| Turnover | €55.2 million | €52.1 million |
| Consolidated traffic | 10.2 million tonnes | 8.9 million tonnes |
These are company statistics as relayed by the Irish Examiner and Port of Cork’s 2024 reporting; they are not independently recalculated here. The cited official reports index does not list a 2025 report, so the 2025 figures are attributed to the newspaper’s account of the company’s latest annual report.
What the year-on-year changes show
Measured on the same basis, after-tax profit rose by €2.52 million, operating profit by €2.2 million and turnover by €3.1 million. Consolidated traffic increased by about 1.3 million tonnes, based on the rounded totals reported for the two years. Port of Cork’s 2024 material covers Cork and Bantry on a consolidated basis, matching the scope used for this traffic comparison.

The figures describe different parts of the business: turnover is revenue, operating profit is earnings from operations before other items and tax, and profit after tax is what remains after tax. The reported €8.5 million pre-tax figure should therefore not be substituted for the €7.95 million after-tax figure when describing the headline result.
What the company said supported the increase
The Irish Examiner attributed the higher pre-tax profit to stronger liquid bulk and container trades, as well as storage income. This is the company’s reported explanation, not a separately established breakdown of how much each activity contributed.

Port revenues can arise from port dues, terminal operations, land and infrastructure leases, stevedoring, warehouse rents, towage and storage, according to a NewERA and NTMA profile. That range of activities helps put the cited cargo and storage factors in context, but it does not provide a 2025 revenue breakdown by segment.

Port of Cork said its 2024 operating profit fell to €6.9 million from €7.5 million in 2023, even as turnover grew. It attributed pressure to the costs of operating the Tivoli and Ringaskiddy container terminals, partly offset by efficiency efforts. That explanation relates to 2024; the available 2025 account does not establish that the same costs changed or explain the later improvement.
