Polygon’s $100 million Polygon Studios announcement was a 2021 commitment to support gaming and NFT projects—not a confirmed grant program that developers can still apply to. Polygon described investment, marketing, technology, and community support as intended uses, but the available announcements do not provide a final accounting or establish that any funds remain available.
What was Polygon Studios’ $100 million commitment for?
On July 20, 2021, Polygon announced Polygon Studios as a hub for gaming and NFTs. The initiative aimed to help traditional game developers add Web3 features, including NFTs, and to support projects building in the Polygon ecosystem. Polygon said its $100 million treasury commitment would go toward investment, marketing, technology, and community support. Polygon’s launch announcement did not give a complete allocation schedule or say that the entire amount would be distributed as grants.
Polygon also claimed at launch that more than 60% of then-current NFT and blockchain-based Web3 games used its PoS chain as their preferred scaling solution. That was Polygon’s historical claim in 2021, not a current market-share figure.
Did Polygon Studios fund any gaming NFT projects?
One publicly described example came in December 2021. GameOn Entertainment Technologies said Polygon Studios would provide non-dilutive funding for 50% of GameOn’s ongoing product-development costs under a partnership to build NFT-based games on Polygon. This is a specific arrangement reported by GameOn, not an independently audited accounting of Polygon’s overall fund. GameOn’s announcement does not establish how much of the broader commitment was deployed.

- Cryptocurrency cold storage made easy. The iCoin Wallet securely holds your Bitcoin & Ethereum Private Keys encrypted in the device’s memory. This now includes native NFT (ERC-721) as well as ERC-20 support. Because the iCoin Wallet has no Network connection (no WiFi, no cellular antenna, no SD card slot, no microphone, no front facing camera) you can be assured that your Private Keys are not exposed to any Blockchain or Internet.
- A 3" LCD touchscreen display allows direct secure entry of pin codes and seed phrase entropy. The Wallet now offers encrypted Bluetooth support in addition to an Air Gap only functionality which employs the Wallet’s rear facing high-res camera to read QR codes and enable transactions for safe data entry and retrieval.

Can developers still apply for the original funding?
The available announcements do not establish an open application process, current eligibility rules, or a remaining balance for the 2021 commitment. It is therefore not possible to treat the announced $100 million as funding currently available to applicants. The sources also do not provide a final deployment total.
Is Polygon Studios the same as Polygon Labs?
No. In a January 11, 2023 restructuring announcement, Polygon said employees were being unified under Polygon Labs and that the Polygon Studios name and brand were being sunset. The post distinguished Polygon—the name for a series of protocols—from Polygon Labs, the group of companies encompassing employees. Polygon’s restructuring announcement explains the naming change. Polygon Studios is therefore the historical label for the 2021 initiative, not the name Polygon used for its employee-bearing organization after the restructuring.

How the 2024 Inevitable Games Fund differs
Polygon Labs later participated in a separate gaming investment vehicle, the Inevitable Games Fund. Announced in 2024 with King River Capital and Immutable, it had a final fund-size cap of US$100 million. The announcement said King River Capital led the investment process, while Immutable and Polygon Labs contributed sourcing and Web3 gaming expertise. It described the fund as privately offered to certain professional and sophisticated investors. King River Capital’s announcement concerns this later fund, not the Polygon Studios treasury commitment announced in 2021.
The two initiatives should not be treated as interchangeable: they were announced at different times and have different descriptions of how capital was provided and who it was for.
