What changed in the Australian Polestar 4 pricing?
CarsGuide reported on September 9, 2026, that Polestar had cut Australian Polestar 4 prices by approximately AUD 4,600. Its reported starting prices are:

These are reported prices, not a matched quote for two equivalent cars. The Polestar figures exclude on-road costs, and the CarsGuide item does not identify the Model Y trim or confirm that the Tesla figure uses the same price basis. Polestar’s official sources cited here do not confirm the revised Australian price list, so check the live Australian configurator or a retailer’s current quote before budgeting.
Does the cut make the Polestar 4 a cheaper Model Y alternative?
Not on the listed starting figures: the reported Model Y price is lower than either Polestar 4 variant. But that gap alone cannot establish which car is better value. The comparison needs to use the same market, price basis, and closely matched equipment and motor configurations. A list price should not be compared with a driveaway quote as if both include the same costs.

Before deciding, compare current local prices and availability, then check:
- Which exact Model Y trim and Polestar 4 motor configuration you are considering.
- Whether each quote is a list price, includes on-road costs, or reflects an incentive.
- Delivery timing and whether the quoted vehicle is available from stock.
- Included equipment and performance, alongside each car’s official range figure and the test cycle used.
- Body style and rear visibility: the Polestar 4 coupé has no rear window.
Polestar describes the Polestar 4 as a D-segment SUV coupé positioned between the Polestar 2 and Polestar 3. It announced a separate, SUV-bodied Polestar 4 variant in 2026; the company says the new SUV and latest coupé have retuned chassis components. This gives shoppers a body-style choice within the Polestar 4 line, but does not make either vehicle directly equivalent to a particular Model Y trim.

What the Polestar 4 offers beyond its price
Polestar claims up to 630 km of WLTP range for Rear Motor variants and up to 544 hp for Dual Motor models. These are manufacturer figures, not independent test results, and the range claim is tied to the WLTP cycle. Check the specification for the exact variant you would buy rather than treating either maximum as applying to every Polestar 4.
The coupé’s absent rear window is another consequential difference to weigh in person. It is a design choice; the cited sources do not establish a particular safety or usability outcome, so assess whether its arrangement suits your driving and parking needs rather than assuming a benefit or drawback.

US incentives and availability are a separate calculation
The Australian price reduction should not be mixed with US promotions. As of October 8, 2026, Polestar’s US offer is $25,000 off MSRP for a cash purchase of a new 2026 Polestar 4. The offer runs from October 1 through November 2, 2026, requires delivery by November 2, and is subject to terms and participating locations. Confirm eligibility and the final transaction price directly with a participating location; this is a dated US offer, not an Australian discount or a general price reduction. Separately, Polestar said the US government had not granted the authorization the company needs under the current Connected Vehicle Rule to sell model-year 2027 vehicles in the US. The company said it would continue selling remaining Polestar 3 and 4 stock and supporting existing customers. That statement concerns model-year 2027 sales and does not mean current eligible 2026 inventory is unavailable. How to judge the deal before committing
- Get current local quotes. In Australia, ask for written prices for the exact Polestar 4 and Model Y variants, with on-road costs shown separately or included consistently.
- Match the specification. Compare motor layout, included equipment, performance, and official range figures using the same stated test-cycle context.
- Confirm stock and timing. Ask whether the quoted car is in stock, when delivery is expected, and whether the price depends on a promotion or a particular vehicle.
- Assess the body and visibility setup. Decide whether you prefer the Polestar 4 coupé, the newly announced SUV-bodied version, or the Model Y after seeing the relevant configurations.
- Recheck incentives at purchase. Promotions and inventory can change. For a US 2026 Polestar 4, verify the October–November offer’s terms and delivery deadline before relying on the $25,000 figure.
