In Bill’s Archive’s English ranking, RGB Mew G/RGB from 30th Celebration is the most expensive card in the broad Mega-era list, at $3,574.75. If you mean a card with the modern Mega ex designation, the leader is Mega Gengar ex 284/217 from Ascended Heroes, at $866.33. Both figures are TCGplayer market-price snapshots for raw near-mint English singles dated 26 September 2026—not guaranteed sale prices or appraisals. Bill’s Archive’s ranking and methodology provide the basis for these comparisons.
What counts as a Mega Evolution card?
“Mega Evolution” can mean the wider card history of the mechanic, or only the modern Mega ex-era releases. That distinction changes the answer: the broad English ranking includes RGB Mew, while the highest-priced Mega ex in that ranking is Mega Gengar ex.

The collector-card database NinePocket counts 209 English Mega Pokémon cards across three periods: 87 original M-EX cards from 2014–2016, eight TAG TEAM appearances from 2019, and 114 modern Mega ex-era cards from 2025 onward. Its series overview and card list show why an all-era ranking is broader than a list of cards from the current expansion line.
For clarity, the table below gives the leading English entries in Bill’s Archive’s broad ranking, then identifies the Mega ex leader separately.

Most expensive English Mega-era cards
Bill’s Archive reports TCGplayer market prices in US dollars for raw near-mint English singles, captured on 26 September 2026. It excludes graded cards and counts each card number once at its dearest version. The ranking is a dated market snapshot; prices may have changed since.
| Rank | Card | Set and collector number | Rarity | Market price (USD) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | RGB Mew G/RGB | 30th Celebration | RGB Rare | $3,574.75 |
| 2 | Pikachu ex | Ascended Heroes, 276/217 | Special Illustration Rare | $944.57 |
| 3 | Mega Gengar ex | Ascended Heroes, 284/217 | Special Illustration Rare | $866.33 |
| 4 | Mega Charizard X ex | Phantasmal Flames, 125/094 | Special Illustration Rare | $679.99 |
| 5 | Mega Dragonite ex | Ascended Heroes, 290/217 | Special Illustration Rare | $542.16 |
| 6 | Mega Charizard Y ex | Ascended Heroes, 294/217 | Mega Hyper Rare | $332.63 |
| 7 | Pikachu ex | Ascended Heroes, 277/217 | Special Illustration Rare | $307.87 |
| 8 | Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex | Ascended Heroes, 281/217 | Special Illustration Rare | $264.68 |
| 9 | Mega Charizard X ex | Phantasmal Flames, 130/094 | Mega Hyper Rare | $245.90 |
| 10 | Mega Lucario ex | Mega Evolution, 188/132 | Mega Hyper Rare | $242.71 |
Every price in this table is Bill’s Archive’s raw near-mint English TCGplayer market price as of 26 September 2026. RGB Mew leads the broad list, but Mega Gengar ex is the highest-priced Mega ex in it. Ascended Heroes accounts for 10 of the ranking’s top 25 English cards, according to the same source.
Japanese cards have a separate ranking
Bill’s Archive lists Japanese cards separately, using the same USD market-price snapshot date of 26 September 2026. Its leading Japanese entries are:
| Rank | Card | Set and collector number | Market price (USD) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Mega Rayquaza ex | Storm Emeralda, 113/076 | $945.56 |
| 2 | Mega Charizard X ex | Inferno X, 110/080 | $711.63 |
| 3 | Mega Charizard X ex | Inferno X, 116/080 | $711.20 |
Keep the card language and rarity label attached to any comparison. Special Illustration Rare is the English rarity term; Special Art Rare is a Japanese label, not an interchangeable name for the same category. Bill’s Archive’s sample-level comparisons put median English Special Illustration Rares at $52.41 versus $29.30 for Japanese Special Art Rares in the sets it compared. For the gold-rarity comparison, its reported medians are $264.00 for Japanese Mega Ultra Rares and $204.36 for English Mega Hyper Rares. These figures describe that source’s selected sample, not every card or the market as a whole.

How to interpret the price figures
A market-price estimate is a comparison point, not a promise of what a seller will receive. It is not an official Pokémon price, a guaranteed transaction, an appraisal, or a forecast. Actual offers and sale proceeds can differ with condition, timing, language, marketplace and fees. Bill’s Archive’s figures are for raw near-mint cards; they should not be compared directly with graded-card sales as if both measured the same thing.
- Match the exact card. Check its name, collector number, set, language and rarity; alternate prints of the same Pokémon can have very different prices.
- Match the condition and pricing measure. The figures here are market prices for raw near-mint singles, not graded-card values or individual sale records.
- Check the date. A ranking dated 26 September 2026 is a snapshot, not a live quote.
- Separate scopes. An all-era Mega list, a modern Mega ex list and a single-set list answer different questions.
Why single-set lists can give a different answer
A ranking for one expansion is not a series-wide ranking. PokemonCardValue’s tracker for the English Mega Evolution expansion, updated 29 September 2026, lists Mega Lucario ex 188/132 as its top ungraded entry at $239.41. That is a different set and snapshot from Bill’s Archive’s 26 September all-series English ranking, where the same card appears at $242.71. The values should not be merged or treated as contradictory: they describe separate sources, scopes and dates. The tracker’s set-level list is useful when the question is specifically about that expansion.
For card identity and rarity terminology, The Pokémon Company’s Mega Evolution card-list PDF includes categories such as Special Illustration Rare and Mega Hyper Rare. The official card list verifies set details; it does not establish a current market value. Official release announcements place Ascended Heroes’ availability on 30 January 2026 and Pitch Black’s on 17 July 2026. Those release dates provide context, not price evidence.
What this means if you are buying or selling
Use a ranking to identify which exact printing to research, then check current listings and recent transaction information for that card’s language and condition before agreeing on a price. A seller’s asking price is not proof that a card sold for that amount. If you are storing a raw single, sleeves and rigid holders are common collecting accessories; choose products suited to the card and storage conditions rather than assuming any accessory eliminates damage risk.
