GameStop’s bonus for the Pokémon Legends: Z-A launch was a physical tote bag. It went to customers who had pre-ordered the game and picked it up at a local GameStop midnight launch on October 16, 2025, while supplies lasted. That offer is over. As of October 2026, none of the sources reviewed confirm whether any tote bags remain, and the in-game bonuses that ran alongside it expired in early 2026.
What GameStop offered at launch
Launch coverage describes a single retailer-exclusive item. Three points define it:
- Form: a physical tote bag, not a game code or in-game item.
- Who qualified: customers who pre-ordered the game and attended a local GameStop midnight release. TechRadar’s roundup also advised online pre-order customers to bring their receipt to a store to collect the physical copy and the tote.
- Limit: the gift was available while supplies lasted, so it could run out before a given store’s event.
TechRadar described the tote as GameStop’s free gift for the midnight launch and said buyers of both the original Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 editions were eligible. GamesRadar described it as a GameStop exclusive for pre-orders, also tied to the local midnight release and limited to supplies on hand. GameStop’s own product page does not list the tote, so the terms above come from those two contemporaneous editorial accounts rather than from the retailer’s current listing.
How it differed from Pokémon’s official bonuses
Pokémon’s own pre-order rewards were digital and came from The Pokémon Company International, not from GameStop. Readers often mix the two up, so the table below separates them.

| Reward | Form | Who qualified | What you had to do | Status as of October 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GameStop tote bag | Physical merchandise | Pre-order customers, original Switch and Switch 2 buyers per TechRadar | Attend a local GameStop midnight launch, or collect an online pre-order in store with the receipt | Ended. Whether any stock remains is not stated in the sources reviewed. |
| Ralts holding a Gardevoirite | In-game Pokémon via Mystery Gift | Owners of the physical or digital version of either Pokémon Legends: Z-A or Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition | Choose “Get via Internet” in the Mystery Gift feature with a connected Nintendo Account and internet access. The official page says the process took about one hour of play. | Expired February 28, 2026 |
| 100 Poké Balls code | Serial code for in-game items | Digital purchasers through the Nintendo eShop | Purchase digitally by February 28, 2026, then redeem the code | Redemption ended March 10, 2026 |
The official Ralts offer is the only reward in the set that could be claimed in either physical or digital form of both editions, which made it the broadest of the three. The GameStop tote was the only one that depended on attending an event or visiting a store.
Switch and Switch 2 eligibility
Platform eligibility varied by reward:
- Tote bag: TechRadar said both original Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 buyers could receive it.
- Ralts: the official Pokémon page said the Pokémon was available for both the standard game and the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, in physical or digital form.
- Poké Ball code: the code was tied to digital purchases, so it depended on buying the digital version rather than on the console.
GameStop’s listing for the original Switch release uses model number HACPALZLA. Confirm the model number on the box or product page before buying any copy, since the two editions are sold separately and the Switch 2 edition is the one the official page names.

How to judge a retailer pre-order bonus
The Pokémon example shows a pattern that applies to most pre-order promotions. Five questions separate a useful bonus from a marketing detail:
- Is the reward physical or in-game? Physical items such as bags or steelbooks have resale or use value only to some buyers and can vanish once stock runs out. In-game rewards cost nothing extra but expire with the promotion’s terms.
- What did you have to do to qualify? Pre-ordering is a financial commitment made weeks ahead. Attending a midnight event adds time and travel cost to the purchase.
- Was collection tied to a store? Online pre-order holders in the GameStop example had to bring their receipt to a store, so the bonus was not automatically shipped with the game.
- Which editions qualify? Check whether the reward covers physical and digital copies, and whether it applies to every console version.
- What are the deadlines and stock limits? Both the official Ralts window and the Poké Ball redemption window closed months after launch, and the tote was limited by supplies.
GameStop’s product page also warns that pre-owned copies may not include additional content. A used copy bought to save money may therefore not come with a pre-order reward, even if the new copy did.

Checking whether a bonus is still available
Older roundups, including the 2025 articles cited here, describe offers that are no longer running. To confirm an offer today:
- Open the retailer’s current product page and read its promotion or “included with purchase” section. Note any date on the offer.
- Look for the publisher’s official bonus page, which states the redemption window and eligible editions.
- If the offer requires a store visit, call the store and ask whether any stock remains before you travel.
- Once the game is in your library, check the redemption method (for example, Mystery Gift on the Nintendo Switch family) and confirm the reward arrived before the deadline passes.
No current source reviewed confirms a Pokémon Legends: Z-A pre-order bonus that is still active, so do not treat the 2025 terms as a live offer.

- Compete in the Z-A Royale each night to test your skills and try to become the strongest Pokémon Trainer

Because the tote bag and digital codes are expired or unconfirmed, the practical takeaway for a buyer today is about how to judge future promotions, not about claiming these rewards.
