The claim has been allowed to proceed, but Sony has not been found liable in the reviewed court record, and no UK cash payout or per-player amount has been confirmed.
What is the PlayStation You Owe Us case?
Alex Neill Class Representative Limited is bringing an opt-out collective claim against Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe Limited, Sony Interactive Entertainment Network Europe Limited and Sony Interactive Entertainment UK Limited. The Competition Appeal Tribunal describes the case as seeking damages for alleged breaches of the Competition Act 1998’s Chapter II prohibition and/or Article 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.
The representative alleges that Sony’s conduct around digital games and add-on content sold through the PlayStation Store caused loss to purchasers. Those are allegations, not findings that Sony broke the law. The Tribunal made a Collective Proceedings Order on 19 January 2024, allowing the collective case to proceed. That order is not a judgment on liability or an award of compensation. The Tribunal case register records a trial timetable set by an order dated 22 August 2025 and later case-management orders through February 2026.
Who was included in the UK class?
A Tribunal-directed notice dated 13 February 2026 amended the class definition to cover qualifying purchases made from 19 August 2016 through 12 February 2026. A relevant purchase means a paid digital game or add-on-content purchase from the PlayStation Store by a UK PlayStation user who paid to access or download it.

- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)
- Vertical Stand sold seperately
The notice set different membership rules according to when a person first made a relevant purchase:
- First purchase from 19 August 2016 through 19 August 2022: purchasers were already class members unless they opted out.
- First purchase after 19 August 2022 through 12 February 2026: membership depended on UK residence or domicile on 12 February 2026. The notice described an opt-out arrangement for people domiciled in the UK and an opt-in route for people outside the UK.
The notice’s opt-in and opt-out deadline was 9 March 2026, which has passed. Its terms also say that class members who do nothing are bound by the case’s judgments and give up the right to bring their own separate claim over the same legal claims. People who opted out are not eligible for any payment from this case if money becomes available. The Tribunal case register provides the case materials, including the class notice.

Does the case mean players will receive cash?
No UK payment is established in the court materials reviewed. The case has not produced a merits decision finding Sony liable, an award of damages or a confirmed individual payment. Whether any money becomes available depends on the eventual outcome and any distribution process that follows. A specific amount per player should not be treated as fact.
The case’s collective status does not itself mean that each class member is owed money. Nor does a trial timetable guarantee a particular result. The Tribunal register is a record of proceedings and procedural steps, not proof of liability or an individual compensation award.

How does the separate US PlayStation settlement differ?
US settlement headlines can be mistaken for news about the UK claim, but the proceedings have different eligibility rules and proposed payment terms.
| Point | UK collective claim | US Caccuri settlement |
|---|---|---|
| Jurisdiction and case | UK Competition Appeal Tribunal proceedings brought by Alex Neill Class Representative Limited against three Sony entities. | Caccuri, et al. v. Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC, pending in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. |
| Purchases covered | Paid PlayStation Store digital games or add-on content purchased from 19 August 2016 through 12 February 2026, subject to the class rules. | Specified games bought through the PlayStation Store from 1 April 2019 through 31 December 2023, subject to game-specific voucher and price-change conditions. |
| Status | Collective Proceedings Order made; case remains unresolved in the reviewed Tribunal record. | Proposed settlement awaiting a fairness hearing scheduled for 15 October 2026, according to the settlement administrator. |
| Potential payment | No UK award or individual payout amount confirmed. | The administrator’s FAQ describes a proposed $7,850,000 settlement, subject to court approval, with distribution after permitted expenses planned as cash-value PlayStation Store account credits to PSN wallets. |
The US settlement FAQ says the court has not decided whether Sony violated any laws. Its proposed fund and PSN wallet-credit plan belong to that US case; they do not establish a UK cash payout or determine the result of the UK claim.

What should UK players take from this?

- The amended class definition covers qualifying purchases through 12 February 2026, with different participation rules for earlier and later purchasers.
- The deadline stated in the notice has passed; it should not be treated as an open opportunity to opt in or out.
- Class members who did not opt out are bound by the case’s judgments and cannot separately bring the same legal claims; people who opted out cannot receive any payment from this case.
- The separate US settlement concerns a narrower set of qualifying games and proposes wallet credits, not UK cash compensation.
