Sony’s verified $20 Portal offer was a U.S. promotion in 2025, not a promise for this year. For 2026, compare live local listings at checkout; the reported U.S. PS5 prices below are reference prices, not Black Friday deals.
Are PlayStation Portal and PS5 on sale for Black Friday 2026?
As of October 4, 2026, the available sources do not establish a specific 2026 Black Friday discount for PlayStation Portal or a confirmed PS5 Black Friday price. Best Buy Canada says its sale returns in November, but its page does not name a Portal markdown. GamesRadar reports early PS5 deal activity, but that does not establish a particular Portal offer or a Black Friday price. Sony also cautions that offers vary by region and retailer, and that retailer prices and availability may vary.

Sony’s 2025 U.S. Black Friday promotion included $20 off PlayStation Portal. That is a historical benchmark only. The same promotion listed up to $100 off PS5 consoles in select regions and $100 off PS5 Pro; those amounts also describe the 2025 promotion, not 2026 availability. See Sony’s 2025 Black Friday announcement for its dated offers and regional caveats.
What are the reported 2026 U.S. PS5 prices?
GamesRadar’s 2026 guide reports the following U.S. reference prices, attributing them to changes effective April 2, 2026. They are not sale prices, and the figures are secondary-source reporting rather than primary-source price verification.

Is PlayStation Portal a handheld PS5?
No. Portal is a remote player that streams compatible games; it is not a replacement for a PS5 console. For Remote Play, the PS5 must be online and either powered on or in Rest Mode, paired with Portal, and connected to the internet. That makes Portal most useful if you already own a PS5 and want to play while someone else uses the television.
Sony lists an 8-inch LCD, 1080p resolution, and play up to 60 frames per second. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent performance-test results. Sony specifies a minimum broadband Wi-Fi connection of 5 Mbps and recommends 15 Mbps for a better experience; actual quality varies with the network environment. See Sony’s PlayStation Portal product information for the device details and requirements.

Does PlayStation Portal require PS Plus?
Remote Play does not require a PlayStation Plus membership. Sony’s official Portal FAQ states: “No, using PlayStation Portal™ Remote Player and PlayStation® Remote Play does not require a PlayStation Plus membership.” A membership may still be required for a game’s multiplayer features.
Portal can also stream selected games from the cloud, including eligible PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog titles and selected digital PS5 games in a user’s library. This is distinct from Remote Play from a PS5 you own: cloud streaming requires PlayStation Plus Premium, and eligible games and availability depend on region, plan, and catalog. Check Sony’s Portal product information and FAQ for applicable requirements.

Compare like with like before treating a headline saving as a deal. A lower sticker price can be offset by shipping, required membership costs, or a bundle whose extras you would not otherwise buy.

- The Package Include: 1 x Carrying Case, 2 x Screen Protector, 1 x Grip Case, 4 x Thumb Grip Caps
- Match the product: Compare the same PS5 edition and condition, or confirm that a Portal listing is for the PlayStation Portal Remote Player.
- Compare checkout totals: Include shipping and any required membership, rather than relying on the advertised price alone.
- Value bundle contents realistically: Count a game or accessory only if you would actually buy it, and compare the bundle with buying the console or Portal separately.
- Check protections and availability: Review warranty, return policy, local stock, and delivery timing.
- Verify the claimed saving: Compare the offer with the current regular price for that model in your market, not an old launch price or a price from another country.
For Portal specifically, include the cost and usefulness of the required PS5 for Remote Play, the reliability of Wi-Fi where you intend to play, and whether you plan to use Remote Play or Premium cloud streaming. A Portal discount may be poor value if you do not have a compatible PS5 and do not want the separate cloud-streaming subscription.

Should you buy Portal or a PS5 on Black Friday?
If you do not own a PS5, compare console deals first: Portal’s Remote Play function depends on one. If you already have a PS5 and want a second screen for play around the home, Portal may fit, provided your Wi-Fi is suitable. If you mainly want cloud access to eligible games, account for the PlayStation Plus Premium requirement and regional catalog availability before comparing device prices.
Do not treat last year’s $20 Portal markdown or the reported 2026 U.S. PS5 reference prices as proof of this year’s savings. The useful number is the verified total for the exact model, retailer, and country you are buying in.
