That storage distinction matters when deciding whether an older discounted Pixel is better value than a newer flagship.

Did Google raise the Pixel 9 Pro XL’s price?
No. The Pixel 9 Pro XL is a 2024-generation device. A current listing may be discounted, refurbished, open-box, carrier-financed or simply remaining inventory. None of those prices changes its original $1,099 U.S. MSRP.
Also, the confirmed figures here are U.S. prices. Taxes, local storage lineups and regional pricing mean they should not be converted directly into U.K., European, Australian or Canadian prices. Google’s Australian announcement, for example, lists a different local RRP: Google Australia.

Pixel 10 Pro XL made the entry-price comparison less straightforward
The important change came with the next generation. Coverage of the Pixel 10 Pro XL reported a higher minimum storage capacity and the removal of the Pixel 9 Pro XL’s 128GB-style entry point. Compare the two ways of measuring the change:

How much more is the Pixel 11 Pro XL?
August 2026 launch coverage reports a U.S. Pixel 11 Pro XL price of $1,299, with general release reported for August 20, 2026. Attribute that figure to current launch reporting rather than treating it as the Pixel 9 Pro XL’s price. Reports list the broader U.S. lineup as Pixel 11 at $899, Pixel 11 Pro at $1,099, Pixel 11 Pro XL at $1,299 and Pixel 11 Pro Fold at $1,899. Therefore, “Google raised prices by $200” is accurate only as an entry-price comparison with the 128GB 2024 model. Against the 256GB Pixel 9 Pro XL, the difference is $100.

MSRP is not the same as your checkout cost
Before comparing deals, identify which price you are seeing:
- MSRP: the manufacturer’s standard unlocked price.
- Sale price: a temporary retailer or Google Store reduction.
- Trade-in value: conditional credit based on the phone, condition and promotion.
- Carrier price: often dependent on a qualifying plan, new line, port-in or installment billing.
- Effective price: your total after credits, rebates, taxes and required commitments.
Google’s Store offers page has advertised savings of up to $300 on Pixel 10 Pro or Pro XL models, but offers are time-sensitive and eligibility varies: Google Store offers. Advertised prices may also exclude sales tax, activation fees, shipping and financing costs.

Should you buy a Pixel 9 Pro XL now?
When it can be good value
A substantially discounted new or certified-refurbished 256GB model can make sense if you want the 6.8-inch screen, Pixel camera processing and Google software without paying current-flagship pricing. A larger storage tier is usually a better target than a 128GB unit priced close to its original $1,099 MSRP.
When the older phone is a poor deal
Be cautious when a 128GB Pixel 9 Pro XL costs near $1,099, or when its price is only slightly below a discounted Pixel 10 Pro XL. The newer phone normally gives you a longer remaining support window and newer platform, modem and AI features. Google’s current Pixel 10 pages are Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro.
Checks for used, open-box or refurbished stock
- Confirm the phone is unlocked and compatible with your carrier.
- Check IMEI status, battery disclosure, warranty and return window.
- Verify that it is U.S. stock if you need U.S. bands or warranty service.
- Confirm storage capacity and included accessories.
How to evaluate carrier “free” offers
A phone advertised as free commonly requires an eligible trade-in, qualifying unlimited plan, installment billing and monthly bill credits. Credits can stop if you cancel or switch early. Compare the total service commitment and effective device cost, not the word “free.”
