PISEN traces its power-bank story to a prototype developed for a 2004 Antarctic expedition. The company says commercial production followed in 2005 and products marketed as power banks reached the market in 2007. Those dates make PISEN an early participant in the category, but the available evidence does not independently establish its claim to have invented the world’s first power bank. Today, the Shenzhen-based company sells charging accessories and is expanding into portable power stations and larger energy-storage systems.

What is PISEN?

Guangdong PISEN Electronics Co., Ltd. is a Shenzhen-based consumer-electronics company whose history centers on batteries, mobile-device accessories and charging products. Its current portfolio also reaches audio accessories, replacement parts, portable power stations, residential and commercial energy storage, and EV charging. PISEN Group, PISEN Energy and regional consumer storefronts serve different parts of that portfolio; a product sold through one channel should not be assumed to share the same seller, warranty or support arrangements as another.

PISEN’s company profile gives 2003 as its founding year. Some company pages also refer to an earlier enterprise dating to 1994, so that date should not be treated as the founding date of the current corporate entity without further documentation. The company describes its history and product range on its company profile and Group About Us page.

Did PISEN invent the power bank?

PISEN claims to have created the world’s first portable power bank and traces its product origin to a 2004 prototype for China’s “7+2” Antarctic mountaineering expedition. Its own timeline says commercial production began in 2005 and products explicitly branded as power banks reached the market in 2007. These are company-reported milestones, not independently verified proof of exclusive global invention.

The useful distinction is between developing a prototype, bringing a product to market, and being the sole inventor of an entire category. The available company histories support describing PISEN as an early developer and commercializer. They do not establish that no earlier portable battery pack existed or that PISEN alone originated every technology used in power banks. PISEN’s account appears on its company news archive, international About page and Group site.

What happened on the Antarctic expedition?

According to PISEN, its battery products were selected as equipment for China’s “7+2” Antarctic mountaineering expedition, and the company developed an external battery prototype for the team. The need was practical: expedition members operating far from conventional outlets needed a portable source of electricity for electronic equipment. Cold, remoteness and restricted access to power made the setting a compelling test environment.

The expedition connection is part of PISEN’s documented company history, but the cited accounts do not include a surviving prototype image, engineering drawing, test report, expedition log, patent number or independent contemporary report that proves the device was the first power bank worldwide. The origin story is therefore evidence of PISEN’s stated development history, not conclusive evidence of sole invention. The company’s account is also presented on its Vietnamese historical page.

How did PISEN’s business evolve?

The dates below come principally from PISEN’s own corporate histories. They show the company’s reported path from mobile power toward a wider electronics and energy business, rather than independently audited milestones.

What changed as power banks became mainstream?

A power bank is more than a battery in a case. It stores energy in rechargeable cells, manages charging and discharging, converts the cells’ voltage to an output a device can use, and connects that output through ports or cables. Packaging, protection circuitry and charging compatibility are also essential to making an external battery convenient for everyday use. PISEN’s historical role should be understood in that wider engineering and commercialization story, not as proof that it invented each underlying component.

The consumer proposition was simple: carry stored energy and recharge a phone or other device away from a wall outlet. As phones and other electronics became part of daily travel, power banks could move from specialized equipment toward ordinary accessories. PISEN’s company history links that shift to early portable-power products; it does not provide independent sales records establishing when or by how much the company itself popularized the category.

How has PISEN’s idea of innovation changed?

From batteries to everyday charging

PISEN’s early identity was tied to mobile batteries and external power. Its present consumer range includes power banks, chargers, cables, mobile-device parts and audio products. That broader accessory business lets the company sell a charging setup rather than only a standalone battery.

Fast charging and integrated cables

Current U.S. store listings include power banks advertising 20W, 22.5W and 30W output, and models with built-in cables. These features can reduce charging time or the number of separate accessories a traveler carries, but a headline wattage alone does not show sustained performance or compatibility with a particular phone. PISEN Group also makes broad claims about multi-protocol charging and “300% faster” performance; without a specified comparison, model and test method, that percentage is not a useful basis for comparing products.

For a specific model, check which port reaches the maximum output, whether USB-C Power Delivery (PD) or Programmable Power Supply (PPS) is supported, and whether output drops when multiple devices are connected. Confirm the built-in cable’s connector and power rating, along with the bank’s input wattage: a high-output bank can still take a long time to recharge if its input is limited. The company’s broad charging claims are on its Group site; current model details appear in its U.S. store.

Displays, protection and connected charging

Some banks display a remaining-charge figure, while PISEN’s broader technology messaging refers to power-management chips and protection against conditions such as overcurrent, overvoltage, overcharge, over-discharge and short circuits. A percentage display is not the same thing as battery-health monitoring, temperature telemetry, fault logging or automatic shutdown under abnormal conditions. Buyers should look for model-specific documentation rather than infer advanced monitoring from a screen or the word “smart.”

The wider charging portfolio also includes products described by PISEN Group in 2026 as a Qi2 8-in-1 140W MagSafe desktop charging station and a Qi2.2 AI-powered robot charger. These examples show activity in magnetic alignment, wireless and multi-device charging, but do not mean that every PISEN power bank supports wireless charging, Qi2 or a particular output level.

From portable power to energy storage

PISEN Energy describes a move from pocket-sized batteries into portable power stations, residential systems, commercial and industrial storage, and EV charging. The strategic link is the scale of the problem: storing energy for one mobile device is different from supplying a home or business, but both involve storing and managing electrical energy. The larger systems are a separate product category, with their own installation, compliance and service questions; an accessory-brand history is not by itself evidence that a particular storage system is suitable for an installation.

PISEN Energy cites 98.5% efficiency for a liquid-cooled power-conversion system. That is a company specification, and the available material does not state the operating point, test conditions or system boundary needed to compare it fairly with another system. See the company’s Energy About page and Energy homepage for the broader portfolio.

How to decide whether a PISEN power bank fits your needs

Start with the device and situation you need to support, not the brand’s origin story or the largest number printed on the box.

  • Match capacity to use. A 10,000mAh bank is usually easier to carry; a 20,000mAh model stores more energy but tends to be larger, heavier and slower to recharge. The printed mAh rating is generally measured at the internal battery voltage, and conversion losses mean a bank does not deliver that full figure to a phone at 5V.
  • Match protocol and output to the device. Check USB-C PD and, where relevant, PPS or another required protocol. Verify the maximum output for the exact port and the combined output with multiple devices connected. Do not assume a model can charge a laptop just because it advertises 30W; confirm the laptop’s requirement and the bank’s sustained USB-C output.
  • Check input as well as output. Input wattage determines how quickly the bank itself can be replenished. This matters if you regularly need to refill it between trips.
  • Choose a cable design deliberately. Integrated cables are convenient, especially in travel or emergency kits, but they can wear out, be short, become incompatible with future devices or be difficult to replace. Check whether the cable carries the advertised power and whether a separate port remains available.
  • Consider wireless trade-offs. Wireless charging avoids plugging in a cable, but is generally less efficient and more sensitive to heat than wired charging. Magnetic alignment alone does not establish Qi2 certification or a particular wireless charging speed.
  • Check travel requirements. Look for the watt-hour (Wh) rating printed on the product and check the current airline policy before flying. Carry power banks in cabin baggage and confirm the carrier’s rules; an mAh figure alone does not establish airline approval.
  • Inspect the model and seller. Confirm the exact model number, electrical ratings, manufacturer, applicable regional marks, warranty issuer, returns process and country-specific support. “3C certified” on a listing is not proof that every model is certified for every market.
  • Set expectations for battery aging. Lithium-ion cells lose capacity over time, particularly with repeated heat exposure. Replace a bank that swells, leaks, smells unusual, becomes abnormally hot or shows physical damage; do not open it yourself, since cells can deliver dangerous current.

What does China’s new power-bank safety standard mean?

China published GB 47372-2026 on March 31, 2026, with mandatory implementation scheduled for April 1, 2027. The standard covers mobile-power-supply safety and includes controls for charging, discharging and temperature, abnormal-operation handling, and tests involving cells and hazards such as short circuits, crushing, thermal abuse, nail puncture and thermal runaway. CAICT describes additional provisions involving product identification and traceability.

The standard text is available at GB 47372-2026, and CAICT’s certification update is at its update page.

What should buyers verify before choosing PISEN?

PISEN is a plausible candidate when a particular model has the capacity, charging protocol, output, design and support terms a buyer needs at a competitive current price. Its Antarctic origin story is not a substitute for those checks, and the company’s broad portfolio does not establish that every model performs equally well.

The company’s U.S. store listed a 10,000mAh, 20W model with an LED display and built-in cable for $39.99, and a 10,000mAh Power Tiny model advertising 30W output and dual built-in cables for $33.99, as observed August 18, 2026. Those are dated listed prices, not guaranteed current prices; stock, sale status, shipping and taxes can change. The listings do not independently establish sustained output, efficiency, battery longevity or thermal performance. For either product, check the exact model’s port and cable ratings, return terms and warranty before buying.

For portable power stations or home and commercial systems, verify the legal seller, installation and service arrangements, model-specific certifications, warranty obligations and third-party performance data. PISEN Energy and PISEN Group serve broader energy categories than the pocket-power-bank storefront, so confirm which entity stands behind the offer.

Is PISEN genuinely innovative today?

PISEN’s story is strongest when framed as a progression: a company-reported early portable-power prototype, a reported move into commercial power banks, and a present-day portfolio that extends from charging accessories toward larger energy systems. The company has meaningful range and a long stated history in mobile power. Its claim to exclusive invention, performance percentages and broad marketing metrics require more qualification than a simple brand timeline provides.

For a consumer, the practical verdict is model-specific: compare protocol, usable capacity, output behavior, safety documentation, warranty and price. For a business or energy-system buyer, ask for the exact technical and compliance documents, service commitments and performance conditions. PISEN’s history can explain why the company works in portable energy; the product documentation should decide whether a particular purchase makes financial sense.
