Paris-based business-planning software company Pigment raised $145 million in a Series D announced on April 4, 2024. ICONIQ Growth led the round, joined by Sandberg Bernthal Venture Partners, IVP, Meritech Capital, Greenoaks and Felix Capital. This is a historical financing announcement—not a new August 2026 funding round—but it remains notable as an unusually large French enterprise-software deal during a weak venture market.

TechCrunch reported that many of the participating funds were existing backers. Co-founder and co-CEO Eléonore Crespo said the financing came together in roughly one week after existing investors offered to fund Pigment ahead of a later planned raise.

The company said the new round increased its valuation from the previous financing, but no valuation figure was disclosed. The available reporting also does not provide Pigment’s ARR, total revenue, profitability, burn rate, dilution or detailed use-of-proceeds breakdown.

Why the financing stood out in France

The significance of the deal was its context as much as its size. TechCrunch cited EY data showing that French technology funding rounds fell 38% in 2023 compared with 2022. Against that backdrop, a nine-figure round for a pure enterprise-software company was unusual.

Venture investors were placing greater emphasis on capital efficiency, measurable growth and durable enterprise demand. Pigment’s round suggested that international investors still had appetite for European software companies that could demonstrate rapid commercial momentum, even when the broader market was more selective.

The insider-heavy structure sends a mixed but useful signal. Existing investors moving quickly can indicate strong conviction and reduce fundraising risk for the company. It does not, by itself, prove that the company had broad competitive demand from new investors or that the round established a market-wide valuation benchmark.

What Pigment sells

Pigment is a cloud planning and performance-management platform. It is designed to reduce dependence on disconnected spreadsheets and older corporate-planning systems while giving Finance, Sales, HR and Operations a shared model of the business.

A typical planning workflow might connect:

  • Finance: revenue, expenses, budgets, forecasts, profit-and-loss statements, cash flow and balance-sheet planning.
  • Sales: pipeline assumptions, sales forecasts, quotas, territories and capacity.
  • HR: headcount, compensation, hiring plans and workforce costs.
  • Operations: demand, inventory, supply-chain and capacity assumptions.

Data can be connected from systems such as enterprise-resource-planning software, customer-relationship-management platforms, human-resources information systems and data lakes. When an assumption changes—for example, a hiring slowdown or a lower sales-conversion rate—the model can be used to examine the effect on revenue, staffing, margins and cash.

Pigment is a planning layer, not an accounting ledger, payroll system or complete ERP. Its value depends on the quality of the source data, the design of the planning model and whether teams actually agree on definitions and ownership.

Growth and customer traction

According to Pigment’s statements reported by TechCrunch, the company tripled revenue in 2023 and doubled its customer base. Pigment also said it ranked among the top 5% of SaaS companies tracked by IVP for revenue growth.

Those figures should be treated as company-reported claims rather than independently audited financial metrics. The report did not disclose revenue, ARR, gross margin, net retention or profitability.

The 2024 report named Unilever, Datadog, Kayak and Merck as customers and said approximately half of Pigment’s clients were based in the United States at that time. Pigment’s current website displays additional enterprise logos and customer stories, including Siemens, Anthropic, Danone, Carta, Supercell, Uber, Fivetran and Figma. These logos, testimonials and performance claims are marketing material supplied by the company and are not independent evidence of results for every customer.

Where Pigment fits competitively

Pigment competes across several categories rather than against one identical product:

  • Excel and Google Sheets: familiar, inexpensive and flexible, but often difficult to govern when many departments, versions and scenarios are involved.
  • Dedicated planning platforms: products such as Anaplan, Workday Adaptive Planning and Planful provide structured budgeting, forecasting and performance-management workflows.
  • ERP-native planning: Oracle and SAP products can be attractive when a company is already deeply committed to those ecosystems.
  • Business-intelligence and data tools: these can provide reporting and analysis but may require substantial custom work to support full planning workflows.
  • Internal systems: some companies combine spreadsheets, an ERP, a data warehouse, BI software and finance-owned processes instead of buying a dedicated planning platform.

Pigment has positioned itself as easier to use and more flexible than legacy tools from Oracle and SAP, with faster cross-functional collaboration and scenario analysis. Those are vendor-positioning claims, not independently established comparisons.

The practical question is not whether a newer interface is automatically better. Buyers should compare model flexibility, permissions, auditability, integrations, calculation performance, implementation effort, adoption and five-year cost.

What the funding could support

The available report does not give a formal allocation of the $145 million. In principle, a round of this size could finance product development, international expansion, U.S. sales, customer success, enterprise integrations and artificial-intelligence features. Those are reasonable areas to evaluate, not confirmed spending commitments.

The financing also gave Pigment additional time to compete for large enterprise accounts. That can be important in planning software, where sales cycles, implementation work and organizational change often take longer than the initial product demonstration.

How Pigment’s positioning changed by August 2026

By August 2026, Pigment’s public positioning had expanded from business-planning software to an AI platform for real-time enterprise planning. Its official website describes AI agents intended to support modeling, analysis and scenario planning.

  • Modeler Agent: intended to turn natural-language requests into governed planning models.
  • Analyst Agent: intended to monitor metrics and identify trends or anomalies.
  • Planner Agent: intended to simulate scenarios and provide recommendations; the site labels this capability “Coming soon.”

The site also promotes connections to ERP, CRM, HRIS, data-lake, spreadsheet and AI systems, including an MCP server for connecting planning data and business logic to AI systems. Availability, limits and governance controls should be verified directly because advertised AI capabilities may be in beta, limited release or not yet generally available.

Who should consider Pigment?

Pigment is most plausibly a fit for mid-market and enterprise organizations where Finance, Sales, HR and Operations must plan from shared assumptions. It may be especially relevant to companies that have outgrown spreadsheet budgeting, need frequent forecasts and scenarios, or require stronger permissions and auditability.

It may be excessive for a small business with a simple annual budget or a single finance team that already works effectively in spreadsheets. It is also a poor substitute for an ERP, accounting system or payroll platform.

Organizations should be cautious if their source data is unreliable, planning ownership is unclear or teams are unwilling to standardize definitions. A sophisticated planning platform can centralize bad assumptions just as efficiently as good ones—and can reproduce spreadsheet complexity at a higher subscription and implementation cost.

What to test before buying

  1. Build a proof of concept using the actual chart of accounts, workforce data, sales hierarchy and forecast workflow.
  2. Confirm the exact connectors for the organization’s ERP, CRM, HRIS and data warehouse.
  3. Test how the platform handles hierarchy changes, late data, duplicates and failed integrations.
  4. Review permissions, audit trails, model versioning and production-change controls.
  5. Measure whether a changed assumption flows correctly through revenue, headcount, profitability and cash-flow scenarios.
  6. Ask how AI-generated models and recommendations are reviewed, approved and restricted by user permissions.
  7. Obtain a complete quote covering subscriptions, implementation, support, minimum commitments, user limits and data-volume limits.
  8. Confirm export and exit procedures before signing a long-term contract.

Pigment’s public site offers a demo request and a “Start free trial (Beta)” option. No standard public price was visible on the official pages reviewed on August 18, 2026, so buyers should expect a sales-led evaluation and should not assume that a beta trial represents a free production plan.

What remains unknown about the round

The financing announcement does not disclose Pigment’s post-money valuation, ARR, profitability, burn, dilution, current customer count or exact use of proceeds. The reported U.S. customer share—about half—was a time-specific figure from the 2024 coverage and should not be treated as current.

The strongest conclusion is therefore specific: Pigment raised a substantial Series D from a high-caliber investor group at a difficult moment for French technology funding, supported by company-reported growth and enterprise traction. The round demonstrated investor confidence in connected planning; it did not establish that Pigment is universally superior to spreadsheets, ERP-native tools or established planning platforms.
