The WA government approved 40 additional trading hours for Perth general retail shops during the 2026 Christmas period. The schedule below gives the hours shops are permitted to trade; it does not require any shop to open.

The 5–31 December schedule is published by WA Consumer Protection; the New Year’s Day 2027 permission is included in the government’s 6 October 2026 announcement. The dates for Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day are set out in the WA public-holiday calendar.
Are Woolworths and Coles open on Christmas Eve in Perth?
Large retailers may trade 7am–9pm on weekdays from 14 to 24 December, including Christmas Eve, Thursday 24 December. That is permission under Perth’s general-retail variation, not a confirmed schedule for every Woolworths or Coles branch. Each store chooses whether to open and what hours to use.

Use the relevant retailer’s store finder and check the exact branch’s festive listing before travelling. A live Coles Central Raine Square listing, for example, gives ordinary hours—weekdays 8am–9pm, Saturday 8am–5pm and Sunday 11am–5pm—but does not state Christmas or New Year hours.
Are supermarkets and shops open on Boxing Day?
Perth general retailers, including supermarkets that fall within the general-retail category, are permitted to trade 8am–6pm on Boxing Day, Saturday 26 December, and on Sunday 27 December and the Monday 28 December public holiday. This does not confirm that a particular supermarket will open, or that it will use the whole permitted window. Check the branch’s own listing for its actual hours.
Are bottleshops open on Christmas Day in Perth?
No liquor-store trading is permitted on Christmas Day in the Perth metropolitan region under the WA licensing guidance. On ordinary days, metropolitan liquor stores may trade 8am–10pm Monday to Saturday and 10am–10pm Sunday. These are legal limits, not guaranteed store hours; the available guidance does not establish a special 2026 festive extension or a named bottleshop’s Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day schedule.
Liquor-store permissions differ from general-retail permissions. For an individual bottleshop, check its live store page and current WA liquor-store trading guidance rather than assuming a supermarket’s holiday hours apply.

Why permitted hours may differ from a store’s actual hours
WA’s ordinary permitted hours for general retail in Perth are 8am–9pm Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm Saturday, and 11am–5pm on Sundays and public holidays, subject to listed variations. General retail is closed on Christmas Day, Good Friday and ANZAC Day. The Christmas variation changes the available trading window, but it does not compel retailers to open.
Consumer Protection states: “Retail shops do not have to be open at these times, it is the choice of the shop managers.” See its retail trading hours guidance for the general rules. These details concern Perth metropolitan trading; do not assume the same permissions apply to regional WA or to special retail categories.
