Perplexity announced a personalized shopping experience on November 25, 2025, combining conversational product research with checkout for eligible items. The service has since evolved into Instant Buy: U.S. users can use it on supported products, but merchants—not Perplexity—fulfill orders and handle most post-purchase issues.
What Perplexity announced
The November 2025 launch was an effort to extend Perplexity beyond answering questions into product discovery, comparison and purchase. A shopper could describe what they wanted in ordinary language, receive product cards with details and summarized pros and cons, ask follow-up questions, then check out inside Perplexity when the product and merchant supported the feature. Engadget’s coverage of the launch described the move alongside shopping features being developed by OpenAI and Google.
Perplexity positioned recommendations as personalized and said the launch was free for U.S. users. That describes the November 2025 launch, not every detail of current plan eligibility. The current name in Perplexity’s documentation is Instant Buy.
How the shopping flow works
- Describe the purchase. Include constraints such as budget, intended use, location, compatibility, style or recipient. For example: “Find noise-canceling headphones under $250 for frequent flights, with comfortable ear cups and multipoint Bluetooth.”
- Review the suggestions. Check product cards, specifications, reviews and stated pros and cons. Ask follow-up questions in the same conversation if a recommendation misses a priority.
- Check the exact item and seller. Product recommendations do not necessarily mean native checkout is available. Look for Instant Buy; some items or merchants may instead require you to continue on the merchant’s website.
- Complete checkout. Confirm or enter the requested checkout details and review the order before submitting it. Perplexity says it saves checkout details after the first use to make later purchases faster.
- Keep the merchant confirmation. Orders are sent to the merchant for fulfillment. Perplexity’s help article, updated July 16, 2026, explains the current feature and its checkout flow: What is Instant Buy?
“Personalized” should not be read as proof that every recommendation draws on a complete profile of the shopper. Explicit instructions and details in the conversation give the assistant useful constraints; the announcement alone does not establish that every suggestion is based on a comprehensive personal history. If the system misunderstands a priority, such as durability versus low price, its shortlist can reflect the wrong trade-off.

What changed from Buy With Pro to Instant Buy
Perplexity’s shopping feature has had more than one name and eligibility snapshot. The earlier service was aimed at U.S. Pro subscribers; current Instant Buy documentation describes broader U.S. access with Enterprise plan exclusions.
| Date | Development | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| November 18, 2024 | Perplexity introduced Shop Like a Pro, with a Buy With Pro purchase option. | The earlier rollout was for U.S. Perplexity Pro subscribers and selected products and merchants. Its FAQ describes U.S. shipping and USD purchases: Shop Like a Pro FAQ. |
| May 2025 | PayPal announced a partnership to support agentic commerce on Perplexity’s Pro platform. | PayPal said the partnership would support checkout through PayPal or Venmo. It is the payment and commerce infrastructure partner, not the seller: PayPal’s announcement. |
| November 25, 2025 | Perplexity announced its personalized shopping experience using PayPal-powered Instant Buy. | The announcement presented product discovery and checkout as parts of one conversational experience. |
| July 16, 2026 | Perplexity’s Instant Buy help article was updated. | It documents U.S. availability, Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max exclusions, merchant fulfillment and the current checkout process. |
These names refer to different stages; Buy With Pro was the earlier feature, while Instant Buy is the current documented consumer-facing name. Perplexity says Pro Search is not required for Instant Buy, although it may produce more detailed and tailored product recommendations.

- [Stronger Magnets, Unmatched Security] Engineered with a dual-row 16x N55 high-grade magnet system, our magnetic phone holder offers superior suction compared to standard N52 models. It features automatic alignment for a secure, instant snap, ensuring your phone stays firmly in place even on bumpy sidewalks or brisk outdoor walks. With our magnetic phone mount, you’ ll never have to worry about drops; just reliable, hands-free security.
- [Quick-Install Heavy-Duty Clamp] Unlike strap-style holders that can loosen over time, this stroller phone holder features a heavy-duty clamp with a textured silicone lining on the inside, allowing it to grip the handlebars firmly without scratching. This clamp base securely attaches to both square and round bars, perfectly solving the key limitation of magnetic bases—which only work on flat square bars. Simply hand-tighten the knob for a wobble-free fit on bar-no tools required. Attach or remove this camera flash bracket in seconds with lasting durability.
- [Full Flexibility, Perfect Viewing Angle] The adjustable ball joint allows for a full 360° rotation and 60° tilt, allowing you to fully control the viewing angle with just one hand. Whether you need to check workout stats, follow GPS directions, or take a video call, simply tilt or rotate your phone to the optimal angle without removing it from the magnetic phone holder for gym. It can also be used as a camera mount, making your filming smoother and more efficient. A perfect Fathers Day gift for dad—convenient and hands-free.
- [Fits Strollers, Exercise Bikes & More] Engineered to fit round bars and handles ranging from 18-35 mm, this phone holder magnetic easily attaches to baby strollers, shopping carts, treadmills, exercise bikes, and golf push carts-making it the perfect gift for parents, fitness enthusiasts, and golfers alike. Whether you’re pushing a stroller, hitting the gym, or on the golf course, keep your device accessible and secure.
- [Compatible with MagSafe & All Phones] Designed for seamless integration, this phone holder for stroller perfectly compatible with iPhone 12-17 series and MagSafe-compatible cases. For non-MagSafe phones or standard cases, we’ve included a premium metal ring to convert your device, ensuring a universal fit for Android users and older iPhone models. Thanks to its heavy duty clamp and adjustable joint, it also works naturally as a camera bracket for hands-free filming.
Who can use Instant Buy—and where it stops
According to Perplexity’s help documentation updated July 16, 2026, Instant Buy is available to users in the United States except those on Enterprise Pro or Enterprise Max plans. Native checkout is limited to eligible products and compatible merchants. When the option is unavailable, Perplexity directs the shopper to the merchant’s site instead. The older Buy With Pro FAQ’s U.S. shipping and USD restrictions describe that earlier service and should not be mistaken for a complete statement of every current checkout rule.
Perplexity facilitates discovery and checkout; it does not become the retailer. The merchant fulfills the order and is the appropriate first contact for product availability, price, shipping, delivery and fulfillment questions. Returns, refunds, warranties, defects and other product-specific issues likewise depend on the merchant’s policies and processes. Perplexity’s help article advises contacting the brand or retailer for purchase-related support.

What PayPal does—and what it does not establish
PayPal’s May 2025 announcement said it would power agentic commerce across Perplexity’s Pro platform, including transactions through PayPal or Venmo. Perplexity’s later shopping launch used PayPal-powered Instant Buy. This makes PayPal part of the commerce and payment layer; it does not make PayPal the retailer, certify the accuracy of AI recommendations or take over merchant fulfillment.
Are the recommendations sponsored?
Perplexity says advertisers cannot pay to place products in its related-products section and that advertising should not influence organic results. That is the company’s stated policy, not independent proof that recommendations are neutral. Its public help documentation does not fully explain how products are ranked, how often prices and stock are refreshed, whether merchant economics affect selection, or how commercial relationships are disclosed elsewhere in an answer. Shoppers who care about those details should treat the explanation for a recommendation and the underlying seller information as things to check, not assume.

- ✅ More features- Anti-shake sturdy clamp attaches to any mount up to 1-1/2". Flexible silicone bands and strong springs in the side rails secure your expensive phone. Rails expand to almost 4 inches. Works with Apple iPhone, Samsung Galaxy or Note, Google Pixel, LG, HTC, Moto, nearly all phones!
- ✅ Makes a great gift for new mom or dad.
How it differs from ordinary search—and competing AI tools
The proposed distinction is the combination of natural-language discovery, review synthesis, preference matching, structured product cards and checkout in the same answer interface. Ordinary search often sends shoppers to retailer pages or comparison sites to continue the process. That is a difference in the intended flow, not evidence that Perplexity is always more accurate, cheaper or better.
ChatGPT shopping research and Google AI Mode product recommendations were also part of the competitive context around the announcement, as Engadget reported. The available information does not establish a current feature-by-feature comparison among those services. A useful comparison for an actual purchase is whether each tool understands your constraints, shows credible evidence and current prices, covers merchants you trust, and lets you verify the final transaction.

Risks to check before buying
- Stale or mistaken details: Prices and inventory can change; specifications may be misread; review summaries can omit context; and delivery estimates may not reflect the merchant’s latest information.
- Wrong trade-off: The assistant may optimize for a high rating or low price when you care more about durability, repairability, fit, compatibility or total cost.
- Seller and product mismatch: A product card may not settle whether the exact SKU is new, refurbished or open-box, who the seller is, or which accessories and regional model are included.
- Checkout and support confusion: Some recommendations will not have Instant Buy. If you are redirected, the retailer’s checkout and policies apply. Perplexity also says an order may not appear in its history if you were signed into a different account.
- Saved checkout information: Faster repeat purchases depend on retaining checkout details. Consider the convenience against your comfort with saved payment and delivery information, and secure the account you use.
- High-consequence purchases: Do not make an AI assistant your sole authority for medical devices, safety equipment, child car seats, financial products, exact-fit or complex-compatibility items, or expensive electronics where warranty and regional model differences matter. Verify against manufacturers, qualified specialists and retailer policies.
Buyer checklist before selecting Instant Buy
- Confirm the exact product name, model number and condition.
- Verify the seller, not only the brand displayed on the card.
- Check the current item price, shipping charges, taxes and final total.
- Confirm the estimated delivery date and the merchant’s return and warranty policies.
- Check size, color, region, voltage, compatibility and included accessories.
- Review every order detail before confirming, then save the merchant’s confirmation and order number.
- For delivery, returns, refunds or defects, start with the retailer or brand.
Instant Buy is most useful when it shortens product discovery and comparison without obscuring the decision. Whether it does so for a particular shopper depends on the product and merchant coverage, the quality and freshness of the information, and how readily the shopper can verify the final item and terms.
