PepsiCo announced lower suggested U.S. prices on many popular snacks, with reductions of up to nearly 15% beginning to roll out the week of February 3, 2026. Target announced separate price cuts on home and apparel and accessories items in September 2026. The announcements do not describe a joint initiative, and neither guarantees a lower shelf price on a specific item at a specific store.
What PepsiCo announced about snack prices
On February 3, 2026, PepsiCo said it was lowering suggested retail prices on many of its popular U.S. snacks. The company said suggested prices for Lay’s, Doritos, Cheetos, Tostitos and other products would begin rolling out that week, with reductions of up to nearly 15%. The maximum is PepsiCo’s stated ceiling for the affected products, not a promise that every item will be discounted by that amount. PepsiCo’s announcement does not establish one universal shelf price for those products.
PepsiCo says retailers set their own prices, so the amount shoppers pay—and whether a particular store reflects the suggested-price reduction—can vary. A suggested price cut is not the same as a guaranteed checkout savings.
Target’s cuts are a separate announcement
In September 2026, Target said it was lowering prices on nearly 2,000 home and apparel and accessories items. It also said the cuts build on more than 10,000 prices it had lowered over the prior year. Those are figures reported by Target in its press release; the release does not describe cuts to PepsiCo snacks.

The two companies’ announcements concern different product categories and dates. The available statements do not establish that PepsiCo and Target coordinated or jointly announced a price-cut program.
Why PepsiCo said affordability matters
In a December 2025 strategy statement, PepsiCo described targeted affordable price tiers by brand and sales channel as part of a broader plan that also included productivity, innovation and portfolio actions. The company said the approach was intended to support growth and purchase frequency. That strategy provides context for the February snack-price announcement, but it does not show that the cuts produced a particular sales result. PepsiCo’s SEC-filed statement outlines the company’s plan.

Associated Press reported that Chairman and CEO Ramon Laguarta described affordability as a friction for some low- and middle-income consumers and said PepsiCo had been testing ways to address it. Those are Laguarta’s comments, not a population-level measurement of household affordability or snack prices. AP’s report provides the attribution.

PepsiCo’s announcement does not say that Target adopted its suggested prices for Lay’s, Doritos or other snacks. Target’s September announcement concerns home and apparel and accessories products, not PepsiCo snack pricing. To know what a snack will cost, shoppers need to check the price shown by their local store or retailer; the company announcement alone cannot establish the price at checkout.

Because the announcements cover different products, stores and dates, their stated figures are not a like-for-like comparison of savings. PepsiCo’s “up to nearly 15%” refers to its maximum announced reduction in suggested snack prices, while Target’s nearly 2,000 figure counts items in its stated home and apparel/accessories scope.
